Does look really good    and for some reason I'm seeing it in FAA colours  ;D

;) Rather old boy  ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Turns out it's a new tool. Rather than create a new smaller tool for the extra sprue, they took the decision to machine a larger new one.

Another email for a Spitfire today, this time the 1:24 Flying Dray. Yawn. They should have an option in preferences whereby you can select the era and scale you want to be notified about.

ANOTHER "surprise" release from Airfix, and it is.... can you guess? Can ya?

Drum Roll Please!

A 1/48th Spitfire!!!!!

https://uk.airfix.com/community/blog-and-news/workbench/famous-griffon-powered-spitfire-triple-scheme-tribute

It's the 1/48th PR.XIX, in a boxing showing the same airframe in three "different" schemes, although two of them are overall PRU blue with different coloured spinners. Interestingly, the one cammo scheme shows the aircraft taking part in combat trials against Lightning F.3s in 1963, in preparation for possible combat against Indonesian P-51s.

Some praise for Airfix! I had ruined a 1/72  Tornado canopy by dropping it and stepping on it. I wrote to Airfix's spares team telling them the truth, and a replacement dropped through my letter box this morning. Great customer service.

PR19_Kit

Surely the  Indonesians were flying P-51s then, not Black Widows? A typo?

That PRXIX, PS853, is now owned by Rolls Royce, flying in PRU Blue these days, and flew over Filton on the day the last Concorde, G-BOAF, made its last ever landing there in Nov 2003. I was there to watch it all happen, in TORRENTIAL rain of course, this being Britain. The Spitfire flight took our minds off the water dribbling down our necks. :(
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yep, typo...  Corrected it in the OP now - cheers!

One of the colour schemes in the kit is the Rolls Royce PRU blue scheme.

Yes, they deserve fullsome praise for the spares service.

I've used it myself, when experimenting with a new (to me) liquid masking formula led to all the transparencies of my BAS Skyvan being ruined. They sent me a new clear sprue without hesitation, and it saved the build.

I once scored a second hand Mosquito and needed a Port fuselage half for it - I had to pay a little bit for it, plus postage naturally, but they came to the party.

Here's a link to the Tanksgiving promotion with the T&Cs:

https://uk.airfix.com/terms-conditions/free-gift-promotion

Basically, it's a free mystery tank kit if you spend over £45 or a free mystery tank bundle if you spend over £60. No info on what the free tank's worth, but the mystery tank bundle is worth "over £35". Interestingly, the Mystery Tank Bundle listed separately on their Bundles page costs £39. This may imply that the mystery tank bundle in the Tanksgiving promotion is not the same as the one you can buy. As usual with Mystery Bundles, they'd be more attractive if they'd specify the scale...

To qualify, a purchase has to be above the £45/£60 limit AFTER any discount codes or Club discount (10%) have been applied, but before Hobby Reward points are applied.

I just ran a test and for a £45 order the free tank was a 1/72nd scale Sherman Firefly Vc. it didn't change whether I was logged in as a club member or not.
