Whilst I'd guess it's not as popular as the Buccaneer one just needs to look at what the Xtrakit one goes for to see there is demand. Kind of like Revell and the Hunter.
Hmm, I'd argue that point. People seem to think others will spend whatever it takes to get a copy, but clearly thats not the case since those same Scimitar kits have been on Ebay for several months and no sale. If they were, perhaps ~£60 then they'd go, but >£80 is a joke.

I don't suppose that someone will release a 1/72 Grumman E-1 Tracer in injection plastic, it's well overdue.

Single country, single service, small number constructed, in active service in its designed role for a very short period of time (1958 - 1966), limited recognition outside of aficionados and those are primarily in the UK, the average person has no clue - including a lot of modellers. It doesn't have the recognizability of Lightning, Gannet, Phantom and even DH 110 and Javelin for that matter. Neither of the last two have set any sales records. The business case is lacking, the expense would be far greater than potential ROI.

Yep, the prices for the Xtrakit Scimitar are due to a limited supply rather than huge demand. People who really had to have one previously, regardless of cost and supposed "rarity" distorted the prices and sellers have taken results from a few auctions and applied it across the board.

Well, if Airfix DID produce a hypothetical Scimitar it would almost inevitably be in 1/48 which, is an instant turn off (for me at least) but, even in 1/72 it wouldn't interest me as a subject. The previous two posts sum it up nicely. I think it would be the Nimrod all over again. You know, the model that "everyone is screaming out for" only for it to end up as an embarassing, dust gathering shelf blocker before being offloaded at humiliatingly low prices.

Actual Airfix product news, just to please Chris!   ;)

Airfix have released a new boxing of their 1/72nd Mosquito, which builds a B.XVI, B.35 or TT.35.

Available now, £25: LINK

New parts: Open and closed bulged bomb doors, 4000lb "Cookie", Bomb bay interior and target towing winch.

(Also note my previous, somewhat buried, post about new discount bundles)

Very tempting indeed. In fact, I ordered three before the Airfix Marketing team realise they made a terrible mistake in not surprising us with yet another Spitfire

I might get three and pick them up from the BIG yellow H at Telford.

Very surprised that Airfix actually have them in stock, I was expecting them to be only available through pre-order.

EDIT: Not available at the BIG yellow H to buy right now, only on re-order there. Might wait until Telford and see who is selling them cheaper than anyone else, or possibly wait until the January sales.

I'm no more interested in Mosquitos than I am in Spitfires or Bf 109s, but I know plenty of people are, so I'm glad for them.

I have ZERO criticisms of the Mosquito by the way, it was an EXCELLENT design, but for whatever reason it just generates ZERO what-if ideas in my brain... :-\

Just got an email from Jadlam, nice. The late model and bulged doors fit a particular whiffing need I have. I'm sure the cookie and target tug parts will come in handy.

Very fair comment. Including the three I just ordered, I now have seven of these kits. I know rivet counters have issues with the kit but, none of them detract from what is actually a very nice little model, albeit a tad fiddly in construction. As this is now the third( (I think) issue of this kit, it must surely be selling well so, I guess most customers are quite happy with it. This announcement is a very pleasant surprise.
