My favourite Spits?
Griffin, contra prop, low back.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Odd.  I have a dislike for the 14 highbacks, but I love the 21 - essentially a 14 with the new wing.

Then look out the very few F.22s that had a contraprop.  There were two or three, one being used to try and sell the mark to Sweden.

Oh, and here's a mk IX with a contra prop and a mk XVI tail unit.

I do like them, but my favourite Spit ? Very early Mk I, two bladed prop and "flat" canopy. There's just "something" about them that attracts me,

Cooer, that contra-prop Mk IX's an odd ball for sure.

Easy enough from an Airfix IX with the back end of the Airfix XIX.  Done it once or twice.

If we have to do this then yep, I'll second that.

Purists may go on about the "balance" of the earlier marks but in the end, speed and firepower win wars, while good all-around vision and easier handling (contraprops) save lives.

But that may not be what we 'like' about a particular type, that could be down to just appearance.

One here for the Speed Spitfire. Something about it that looks so familiar but different at the same time.

Oh absolutely, for instance my affection for the radial Fw 190 stems purely from the fact that I like aspects of its engineering detail, not because I'm under any illusion that it was 'better' than every other fighter.

My attitude to the Spitfire stems from the fact that I'm not a huge fan of the type in general, so if I have to have one, I want the one that's most objectively effective.

Absolutely - precisely that.  And beauty (whatever that may constitute) is in the eye of the beholder.

Spitfires may be pretty, Sea Furies may be elegantly brutal, but they both possess beauty.

I'd argue there's only two truly beautiful aircraft - the dH88 Comet and Concorde.

There you go, flay me!

Not a huge fan of the dH.88 Comet &, although attractive, the Concorde is not in the Top 5 for me.

The Blackburn Blackburn does have a challenger!
