Battlefields generally are during combat.  ;)

Not in space.

Can you call it a battle "field" if it's in space? Surely it's a "battlespace"? Mind you, modern military jargon talks about "battlespace" anyway...

Sailor: "Sir, Sir! They're shooting at us!"

Captain: "Well let's see. According to the latest manual, that means it's time to dynamically reshape the battlespace by adjusting our response posture to something more proactively kinetic."

Sailor: "Wot?"

Captain: "SHOOT BACK!"

The Australian Deputy Chief of Army has had something to say about this kind of managerial/advertising "double-speak", recently.

Deputy chief of army warns ADF has become 'detached' from violent nature of war

As long as the politicians don't get in his way, I have hopes for the future of the Australian Army!

I read right through that, and it made some sort of sense, if it wasn't for words like 'excoriating ' in the middle of the piece.

I've never HEARD if that word before and I'm sure 90% of others won't have either. If you're writing a piece  and about simplifying language, DON'T complicate it!  :banghead:

I've known the word for as long as I can remember. I actually quite like the word "excoriating" & it has a precise meaning which is rather immune to managerial double-speak.  ;D
