This is sounding (reading?) like an excellent R3 ( Rest, Recuperate & Re-charge) phase!

Having accompanied the lovely Mrs P to some social events yesterday, and then followed that up by providing my quarterly blood samples to the quacks, life took a gracious turn towards R3, meaning that I managed to sneak away some quality time with my trainer Draken while the prettier (and much so) part of the family enjoyed some sunbathing in the good company of a book. Having left the Draken model yesterday at a stage where I was rather pleased with shapes and surfaces, I today found myself critically scrutinising the model in the setting afternoon sun, and obviously finding imperfections that I for some inexplicable reason couldn't see past. Five (5!) PSR sessions on the nose later, and two on the wing roots, the unrealistically perfectionist part of my personality has been satisfied, and I have been able to move on. The waste of time in itself should be reason enough to question my wits..

In between the wing sessions, however, I managed to glue down the canopy over the crew, finally closing up the cockpit, and despite the stupid amount of work being put in on this old, ill fitting and inaccurate dog of a kit, just to maybe make it look slightly less awful, I find myself being quite content indeed when performing some aerodynamic studies on the largely complete model. It does look surprisingly much like a Sk35C. And while most of the PSR performed won't be noticeable at all once the paint goes on, I know it's there, and I can enjoy the resulting model as more than a physical thing, but also as the vital part of the love project these three early Drakens have turned into. And that's perhaps much of what my hobby is about, methinks. Enjoying myself, even when doing things no one ever will see (like a complete interior in an old Avro Vulcan - as if anyone ever would see that again  ) but that gives me some extra satisfaction nevertheless.

Another effect might be that my already glacially slow building pace is being progressing even slower still, but it seems I'm enjoying these imperfect, fiddly projects rather much more than a slap together, perfectly fitting modern kit. Even when these consumes maybe only a fifth of the construction hours spent on an old dog like this ancient Revell J35 kit. But maybe this is a definition of time well spent, after all. And the Sk35C two seater, here being accompanied by the single seater J35A, looks nice enough, at least to my eye.

Well, there's still some more fiddling to do. Strakes, pitot, pylons and antennae just to mention a few things. I'm probably in for a few more good hours.

Both look good; I didn't think I'd like the trainer, but the Sk35C has great lines.

I like the way of your thought processes.   Have similar ones myself.

My thoughts as well

Having spent the weekend out on a remote rock in the outer archipelago together with a bunch of lovely old farts and a surprisingly solid supply of beer, not too much time has been spent thinking of modelling. Rather, I've focused on driving speed boat military style through the narrow sounds between the rocks and skerries, chatting, sipping beer, chatting some more, skinny dipping in the sea and scaring off some probably quite embarrassed seals and then chatting some more. A good weekend in the lovely Swedish summer, in short.

That said, having gotten back home this afternoon, out of the blue, the idea hit to see if I can build a trainer variant of the Mod 4 Draken I already have (featured on the odd photo over in the "Double Delta" thread). Scavenging the spare parts bin, I did find a set of Heller trainer canopy/spine adapter, so maybe I'll dig out another Hasegawa Draken and get to it. I will need a set of wings from the horrendous old Revell JAS39 Gripen prototype, but as a matter of fact, I've already bought one that'll arrive late this week or early next. Who knows. By then, I might be ready to attach the wings from it..

But I think I'll bring another project or two to the cottage tomorrow anyway. Just to keep the options open.

I can almost HEAR that pic, magic stuff.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

Glad you had a great time, and as for the seals ? They were probably hoping for a beer or two  :drink:

I went to a Joust weekend once, where one of the competitors rode his horse over the fence and up to the Beer Tent (yes, really) and they both had and enjoyed a bottle.
Not something you see every day.  Hilarious.  ;D

I have a friend who has a cat, and that cat puts away a glass and-a-half of decent Chardonnay every day. She's tried less expensive wine, but the cat politely declines and immediately proceeds by exacting revenge on anything soft enough to rip apart (clothes, wallpaper, curtains, furniture etc) so my friend has given in and the cat is now permanently somewhat drunk.

Obviously a wine snob in a previous incarnation.  ;D  ;D

That's even funnier.  ;D
EDIT: At least the cat prefers a White... (must remember the wine varieties better... sackcloth and ashes time.)

Half my family came from Sweden back in the 1890's and I really need to visit the mother country once. In the summer I suppose.
