Time waits for no man, including me, apparently.
Loads at work. Some fun, some less so, but on the plus side, I've been offered another contract in my little advisory and that by a rather reputable player in the market. Nice. I do wonder where I'll find the time resource, though..

On the other side - the kids are out of school for the season, possibly limiting the need for logistic support somewhat. That should help. Even more helpful would have been if the eldest had passed her driving exams last week. Not to complain  too much however, but one could possibly argue about the reason for that as she, during exams, was rather viciously forced out of lane by a middle aged someone in a white Nissan. From what I heard, even I, having almost forty years of driving experience, would have found that situation a bit hairy. And a new exam will cost her another £160, corresponding. Not easy money for a student.

Worse still is however that the exam slots are in high demand, the next available slot within our county/province appearing in late July. That would mean continuous logistic support, basically on an everyday basis until then as she's a seasonal worker at a restaurant out in the sticks, but through persistent searching and some stubborn resolve, we managed to dig up another slot next week. However some five and a half hours away. But rather drive her there than having to drive her to and fro every bloody day..
She'd better sort this exam, though.

Possibly threatening one or another forum rule, the world seems hellbent on going tits up. The American rule is descending into absolute tyranny in a pace I actually thought impossible, and I fear the time to oppose the change in a reasonably peaceful way has passed. What's left now is a civil war democracy probably is bound to lose, leaving the American people in the same spot where you found the Germans back in the late thirties. Far from all agree with the fascists, but as they are forced to cooperate, they will be collectively seen as guilty once this comes to an end. Provided the human race doesn't expire first, which, given the development in the Middle East, is even more likely today than last week.
Even more scary to me is the tendency to not seeing the development from within. My oh so lovely niece who's living with her bloke in LA still believes the federalists can't overrule the local government even as they see armoured vehicles on the streets. I find that exceedingly naive and devastatingly sad. There's so many good and nice people being caught up in this.

At home, summer is here and that's at least some kind of comfort. We're trying to spend as much time as we can in our archipelago cottage, but still, work requires my better half to attend too many meetings to make a more continuous stay possible. Hence, weekends are precious.
The only real downside is that I keep the major share of my modelling gear at home, effectively resulting in no real plastic time at all, but then again, sooner or later I'll find some time for that too.

In the meantime, I've rediscovered the Merlin Bird ID app on my phone, now lustfully eavesdropping on any and all birdsong I get across. The amount of species shouting in the late evenings and early mornings is really fascinating, and while there are a few somewhat rare bird here as well, I find it more fascinating still that some of the more common birds I hear wasn't the ones I thought them to be. Learning is cool!

Well, today's to be a rather warm day. Maybe I'll finally launch one of the boats to start the sailing season. That'll mean even less modelling time, of course, but so be it. Summer up here is despairingly short, so one should use it wisely.

Good to see you back, Mr P.

Summer and weekends are to be used wisely, as you say, and we should enjoy what we can, while we can...

Sadly, I agree with you about the direction the US and other countries are heading in - we keep thinking it'll not be too bad for us here in the South Pacific, but we are a part of the global economy and etc, so that's naïve too... and if someone sees us as not 'on their side', well - there's not much we can do if that someone lobs something transonic our way.
:-\

It sucks, but depending on your point of view, there is the belief of something better on the other side.

Build 'em all and build 'em fast.

But there is the good news that Number One Daughter has an earlier opportunity to re-sit her practical test.

Good news about the contract offer  It's nice to be wanted.

Your schools have a long summer break ? Ours break up end of July, although colleges are earlier, and please, please be careful with the politics.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

True that.

And sorry, Chris.

Perhaps us northeners want to make full use of the warmer months for a summer break. I don't have current dates handy but traditionally, for Finland, it has been from the beginning of June to mid August.

I think your right. From memory, Gondor can confirm, Scottish schools have a longer summer break than those in England.

Another weekend in the archipelago following the most northern of holy days - midsummer. The weather has been rather nice despite temperatures dropping off somewhat this afternoon, leaving me profoundly uninterested in work for a bit. Annoyingly, it seems to be Monday tomorrow.

For reasons (including but not limited to work etc) my mojo has been somewhat absent for a while now, and while it seems modelling time as such may remain rather scarce for yet another couple of weeks or so, I took to reading up on the project threads for the Lightning and the old Drakens. And it might work! I do feel the urge again. I shall take out a model again for "aerodynamic studies" and just maybe, I will find my way back again..

We're always happy to see you, regardless of any progress on the modelling front.

Summer. Generally my favourite time of the year, and this year is no exception. Finally, one can venture outside without being dressed like Sir Ernest Shackleton in his heyday.

Another thing without exception seems to be the rather limited time to myself these days, effectively limiting modelling hours to limes -> 0. Last year, we built a pateo at the cottage. The the year before that, we built a shed. This year, the teen daughters, having shared rooms since the younger was but a baby (on common request, just to clarify) decided they needed more "space to live", and despite me explaining the problems with that expression, on particular when translated into German, we, the better half and myself, have been evicted from our bedroom and force to squeeze ourselves ito what was the combined office/hobby room and now is the combined offiec/hobby room/bedroom. And as if that wasn't bad enough, I have had to dismantle and reassemble loads of sofas, beds and cupboards in order to move them between different rooms in the house. While the upside is that it can be done doe to the Swedish IKEA tradition meaning almost everything is possible to break down, the downside is that I am quite left without arguments not to engage into the moving circus as I am the main assembler in the household.
Now slowly settling in (much of the house is still looking like a bad episode of Storage Wars) I actually think things will turn iout to the better. Having had to totally rethink the wardrobe solution as we're relocating, the new (but not entirely cheap) setup is proving to provide much easier overview and access to what we actually own, something definitely well recieved both by me and the lovely Mrs P. Also, I might be able to store some stuff out of sight (behind doors) that hasn't really graced the shelves so far. The downside, however, is that there's significantly less storage in total available for hobby purposes, mainly meaning an acute need for a much more space efficient solution for projects in progress, a.k.a the Shelf of DoomTM. Well, I would imagine this could have some impact on my discipline in actually sticking to what I have started..
But the amount of time this project is consuming!  :banghead:

Actually, I think this might explain my contribution to the >>PROBLEM<< Kit has observed. Sorry about that..  ;)

Anyway, I think we'll be fine in the end, and maybe I'll even gain a somewhat better logistic solution for my workspace/modelling bench. Maybe. Until then, I'll continue performing "aerodynamic studies" on the old Revell Drakens while planning for their trainer counterpart to be built.

One of the problems with being a modeller in a domestic situation is that one amply demonstrates one's ability to assemble things.

The fact that you prefer doing this with smal plastic items has no effect on the view of the 'Domestic Authorities' and one automatically becomes the 'Assembler of Choice' for ANYthing that needs assembling, and living in Sweden amplifies this to a large factor, being willy nilly next door to umpteen IKEA stores! The 'anything' mentioned here can include stuff ranging from a small cardboard device to support a number of cakes being cooked to a garage, or a patio in your case Mr. Pellson.

I've had this demonstrated to me over two marriages so far and it's held good on many an occasion.

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yep, & you become the Chief Storage Expert, because somehow "you cram ALL THOSE MODELS into such a TINY SPACE!"

[Note: "Tiny Space" is a very relative term & the same "tiny" space on other occasions can be "ALL THAT WASTED SPACE full of models".]
