Quote from: Weaver on October 03, 2025, 04:06:07 PMAll I can tell you is that they keep saying the Shuttle kit is a new tool. Whether it is or not, we'll just have to see.

My prediction for their big SMW anouncement, since they're currently on a space kick, is a 1/144th scale Skylon.
I keep umming and ahhring about the 3D printed ones on Ebay: if I buy one, do you think that'll induce Sod's Law to make them actually do it?
Skylon?
Why would they waste their resources
on something so obscure? None were ever built and the average person isn't even aware the project existed. Space modelling is a small niche in a niche industry. Shuttle and Apollo kits sell due to familiarity, all of the other space subjects currently available are far to the rear of both of those in regards to sales. You'd likely see a model of Eejit Muppet's stupid '50s sci-fi flick lookalike shiny silver phallus "Starship" before you'll ever see Skylon.

It's a joke, Jon...
That'll teach me to not read the comments on FB Airfix groups.
The "it'll be", "should be", "license to print money" stuff gets very obscure and so many of the commenters are serious that it becomes difficult to tell who's being facetious.

Well we do have two of the three remaining extant examples in this country. If they want to measure up/scan the Spitfire F.24, S.6A, Trislander and 1-11 (for a reboot of the 1/144 airliner range) we have here in Southampton at the same time I won't complain ;)

That's okay: I suppose that I should be aware enough of Poe's Law by now to have put a winky smiley on it... ;D

I posted it a couple of posts after Kit's equally unlikely 1/24th Fisher P-24 Eagle suggestion, so I assumed that was the context.

What do you mean, 'unlikely'? I'd have thought it was an obvious choice, after all they did do the 1/24 Hellcat.   ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

or a Saladin for that matter

Both would be nice.

Well, they've done the chassis and running gear, so anything in that 6X6 chassis has a lot of the major work already there.
I guess it depends on how the parts breakdown is.

And looking online, it seems that would be very possible.

Who knows, they may decide to do other Cold War stuff - maybe a Humber Pig in time?
Probably when I've finished my 3D printed version...

Hey I think it's a great idea: I just meant that it's unlikely Airfix will agree... ;)

You are probably correct.  The first thing that comes into my head when I see a Saracen is squaddies on a Belfast street corner.

I would have thought that a Humber Pig would be more reminiscent of that.

Yes and no: they had plenty of Saracens in NI, but the Pig was brought back into service for NI so it was used there exclusively during The Troubles.

Well,Ive got a model of said shiny, silver phallus. 3D printed 1/150 scale and, rather good too. I had to Google "Skylon". Almost sounds like some sort of detergent!

I'm seriously considering using my double club discount and my hobby reward points to get a £75 Vulcan for £54....

Thing is, storage-wise, I need another huge kit box like I need a hole in the head....

With what?

I generally only double-box identical kits, and I don't have another Airfix Vulcan.
