On the same project I heard an odd noise- piston engines and propellers don't sound like modern planes.  I looked up and there was a DC-3/C-47 at about 3000 feet.  There are several based in So Cal so I couldn't tell which it was, but the wing form was unmistakeable.

Not today, but on a work project in a wildlife refuge in southern California, I saw several Cal Fire- forest fire aircraft- grumman turbo trackers doing practice runs overhead.  These are re-engined US Navy ships from the 1960's.  Cool to see them flying, but California has a highly developed "Fire-Industrial Complex" set up to battle a thoroughly natural process.  My spin is if you stop any fires for 100 years, when stuff finally burns it will turn out to be a doozy.  Which, in fact, it turned out to be.  Anyway, a different color scheme:

And then build houses in the same forest!

Not quite over my house but I didn't know where else to put this sooooo....
Unfortunately I didn't find out about this event until too late but my brother sent me a few nice pics I thought you all might enjoy. It was just a sort of open house at the local airport, no flying displays but some nice aircraft coming and going.

Ditto.

The chopper looks good in that scheme.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Captain Canada

Saw this leaving Detroit on Saturday. Pretty sure it's Hairless Joe from the Yankee Air Museum.

We keep seeing the Presidential helicopters over London. They've finally moved on from the CH-46 Sea Knight to the CH-47 Chinook. Seems strange to see US Air Force Chinooks over London.

I wish I'd been at Mildenhall this morning. The USAF flew 8x MC-130 and 4x MV-22 as a commemorative flypast.

No photos, sorry, but to-day is certainly RAF day.
There is an Atlas (A400) in the overhead doing instrument procedures.
Earlier there was a Phenom 100 doing circuits, first time I have seen one of them.

Couple days ago saw a C-5M coming in for a landing... it was a couple miles south of me and almost directly in line with the road I was driving down. Looked like it would land on it. Pretty amazing coincidence... one landed here some months ago but I missed it flying.

Also a couple of days ago: two C-295s a couple of minutes apart, following the lake shore when I was wasting time in a park right next to town center. Not very high. They appeared too suddenly over the trees, for trying to get pictures.

Had something of a mini air display over the house this afternoon.

Four warbirds flying out of Sywell a few miles away having some formation practice.

And as I'm on a rest day with not much else better to do, I grab the camera and with my dad in tow we jump into the car and head over to Sywell.............

Heres a sample in case the link screws up again...................

Lets just say im rather made up to have this lot on my doorstep. Some of them are now resident at Sywell including the Grace Spitfire ML407.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.
