Rheged

Every day this week, we've had what Madame Rheged has taken to calling calling the "Five O'clock Chinook"  passing low over chateau Rheged, apparently using the very prominent  church spire in the village as a waypoint, and then turning South and aviating off towards Hereford and other  points southwards.   It seems to be coming from the local airfield at Shobdon, and I assume is the 1st Credenhill (Hereford) scout troop  [first leader David Stirling]  out to play Sean the local vicar reckons that they'd be lost if the church spire wasn't there to guide them .

Added  late afternoon.   It's Friday, so they must knock off early!!  The inevitable Chinook came by at 4:25 pm!!

Yesterday, Madame was driving back to Weobley from Hereford, when she was overtaken by a Hercules following the line of the A480 towards Wales.  It was, in her words," travelling remarkably low with the back door open".  According to her story, the two  chaps standing in the back door waved at her.     I assume that the driver was flying IFR     I  Follow Roads,  since after Beeching, there are no longer sufficient railways to follow.
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you....."
It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

Some helicopter action y'day, all connected with the Tour of Britain I suspect.

A Jet Ranger came directly o'head around 1400 hrs, crossed the river (in direct contravention of the no fly zone over Berkley Power Station!) and took position over the scarp edge of the Cotswolds. Then it was joined by a Squirrel and they both headed south, which was pretty much where the race went.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

Another CF-18 blasted off from runway 17R this morning, followed a short while later by a Basler Dakota.

Interesting aircraft on one of the cargo ramps, an all-white with no airline makings 747-412, but has just it's registration number 4X-ICC. Turns out to be operated by Cargo Airlines which is an Israeli airline, it's been there for most of the week and today I found out it's being used to transport the horses of the Horse Jumping circuit (there's a big show going on at Spruce Meadows in Calgary)

Something single engined went over this afternoon at the usual height this sort of stuff goes over at (low but not too low - 500ft at a guess?) while I was up a step ladder rebuilding Mrs z's shed.
Too far away to identify but it sounded really rough.  No reports of crashes in the vicinity so I presume it got to where it was going (Tyabb judging by the direction it was headed).

Cheers Todd, it helps being actually out on the airfield, I was stationed between the two 17/35 runways yesterday, and I'll be there all next week too. Hopefully get to see some other interesting aircraft (apart from all the normal traffic)

Recently I've noticed a lot of contrails high up at altitude, I think Calgary is being used as a way point now. Think that has always been the case, it just seems to be a lot more aircraft doing it these days. The sky above the airport is just criss-crossed with contrails all day.

His and her's sheds ?

Police chopper was back again last night. I'm certain they sometimes just use the woods for training

Fair enough but in the interests of equality shouldn't she be fixing her own shed up ?

It involved tools with blades.  I like her as she is - she has exactly the right number of fingers.
