That's one of the "advantages" with 3D printed kits, especially if you prefer finishing a kit rather than assembly.

Quote from: Old Wombat on May 20, 2026, 12:45:08 AMThe Metallic Details Bucc landing gear is all 3D printed & looks way better than I imagined - I just hope it's strong enough to hold the builds off the ground once built.

The couple of sets of 3D printed undercarriage I've bought have been printed in a black resin which is far stronger than "normal" pieces. Hopefully yours is the same ?

It does Mike, thanks. It rolls off the tongue better than 'Lockheed Brum', doesn't it?

Nice one Alastair, well done. I bet it took some finding, it's a nice kit though, although pretty basic.

Similarly there's a Greenwich in S London and one in Connecticut USA, and of course the UK one is where the Royal Observatory is.

I rather enjoy the assembly but I also like to finish a kit from time to time.  ;)  ;D

A very dark grey (tyres), a dark grey (nose wheel well & main landing gear, etc.), a light grey (nose landing gear) & a light blue (pins/axles & a strut for the main gears).

Similar, but not identical to, the EDSG, DSG & MSG I've used on my LCM (3) landing craft but the blue is more like "azure".

I haven't really tested their strength but they seem robust enough ... But there are a lot of bits to go together!

There is an apocryphal tale that some Buccaneer undercarriage components were shipped unlabelled to HMS Ark Royal.   When unpacked aboard, it was assumed from the shape, size and weight of them that they had to be for the carrier engine room as it was inconceivable that such mighty pieces of engineering  could have anything to do with an aeroplane.

A similar tale says that when the raw forgings for the Bucc's fuselage frames were shipped to Brough, the truckers took them to Goole shipyards as they couldn't POSSIBLY be meant for an aeroplane either.  ;D

Actually, I found it a couple of years ago at Perth. I was there early and decided to have a wander around. One of the traders in the second hall, now a Gym, was finishing unloading, and the kit was among what he was sorting out. I asked him how much, he said a figure, and I got my wallet out in a flash. My fastest buy at a show and one of my most sought after too.

This is the boxing that I have, along with the engines I had bought to backdate the Anigrand kit I have, and a couple of 1/144 Cheiftains as cargo. The ambitious idea being to have the doors open.

Pic below.
Went to an antique store today to look for items to possibly buy and donate to my model club's auction this June. Didn't find much of anything and the prices were just a bit too high for me.
But I found the following kit for $25............and still shrink wrapped too!  :o
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Sounds and looks good Alastair, that's a later boxing than mine, but the same plastic of course. And I love the idea of having the doors open, front and rear?

Of course. It does mean lots of work to make the interior, but I think it's doable as a lot is covered in soundproofing.

One of the sets I've got is Czech Master's set for the Special Hobby Mosquito and they are basically single piece prints.

A package of useful resin stuff from somewhere near 'The Toon', all very welcome indeed.

Soon to appear on a build thread for the Op Downfall GB.  ;D

Quote from: PR19_Kit on May 20, 2026, 02:29:04 AMI seem to have glued the fuselage, and the wings, but not joined them yet, and then just left it, no idea why. As I'm doing my RAF C-133C Durham right now my thoughts are turning to an RAF Galaxy, with RB-211 engines of course, but I'm trying to imagine what the RAF would have called it. As it would have to have a city or town name, preferably one that exists in both countries, 'Birmingham' comes to mind, except it would always end up being called a 'Brum' in the real world.  ;D

Would the RAF really have renamed it though? They called the C-130 the "Hercules" and the C-17 the "Globemaster". The Tristar was always the "Tristar" and they never did give the VC-10 a name. There doesn't seem to have been a totally consistent policy. I suspect they'd just have called the C-5 the "Galaxy", knowing full well that that's what everybody would call it in practice anyway.

I don't care, it's MY model and it'll be named the way MY RAF decide, right!  ;D  ;)
