There are always roadworks in the Midlands, and usually on one of the Motorways, nothing new there.

Montreal 😂
The roadworks on the highway between the airport and the city weren't finished when I was last there (April 2024), they were underway at least 7 years before then.

widening the M5 to 3 lanes, decades, of contraflows, and speed restrictions,   shudder.
they replaced a gantry on the m5 -  M42 junction,  it was short, and closed the interchange for the best part of a day  Gibber .

Tell me about it!  :banghead:

I was living in Derby at that time, and often had to drive down to our offices in Gloucester! It took them FOREVER to get that done.

They hired the wrong contractor.

In the 20 or so years I spent attending the ModelEx shows in Auckland, I think it was only in the last 2 or 3 that there weren't some sort of major roadworks happening.

That was a few years ago now, so they're probably about due for more.

I don't drive but should I just mention the M25 ?

Also try getting an Inter-City train on a Sunday  :banghead: Reason I've not been able to attend a fair few model shows over the years  :-\
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

So I've been having trouble with my left knee (i.e. clutch leg) lately and I became worried that driving down to Telford, walking around the show all day, driving back, then doing it all again the next day, might prove too much for it. So this morning I did an 80-odd mile drive, mixed motorway and A-roads, to test it, followed by a couple of hours walking around Stockport.

Conclusion? Not too bad. It started hurting as I walked around town (NOT during the drive) and that was controlled fairly well with the use of one Ibuprofen tablet, so I'm cautiously optimistic now. If walking around triggers it more than driving, I can always blag a chair or even sit on the floor in a corner for a bit, but if I'm stuck in crawling traffic on the M6... :o

The Plan B was to book a motel room halfway there, outside the show-weekend-overcharging zone, for three nights to reduce the daily drive, but it looks like I won't need it now.

Maybe see what options there are in knee supports in the local chemist? Might provide some relief and if it's anything like my dodgy one, keeping it warm will mitigate the stabby stabby pain that cold weather can cause.

Talk nicely to your doctor, and you may be prescribed Ibuprofen gel.   It sorts out most of the problems of my right knee........the results of having been a cross country runner in my youth.

Tomorrow's mission...

You can buy ibuprofen gel over the counter here, but I've already got loads.
