You know, I can envisage a time when there is a backlash against 3d printed models and people start calling for them to be banned from competition as they are "not in the spirit of the hobby".

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

It does bring up some interesting questions. I've never entered a competition, but how are any third party mods whether 3D printed, or a resin kit or PE or whatever considered.

I got a 3D printer originally last summer because there were some mod I wanted to make to kits that I just didn't have the parts for or skill to craft out of raw materials. So I designed and printed what I needed. Earlier this year I built an old Testors F-4G  and wanted a load out of 4 AGM-88s. My options were either buy some (Hasagawa weapons kt, ResKit, ...) or print something. I found someone who had done a nice model of one so I used that. I think I paid a couple buck for the print file. Is that different than buying it from ResKit?? I don't know, it definitely makes ya think  .

Or scratchbuilding up a kit.  And, honestly, if you're really good with CAD programs, what's stopping you from designing and printing your own "scratchbuilt" of a totally nonexistent vehicle?  IMHO, event planners are going to have to take a seriously look at how 3d printers can actually improve a model, at modest expense.

I'm part of a couple Spaceship modeling groups on Facebook and those guys do a lot of their own 3D design and printing because there just simply aren't kits for the subjects they like. So yeah it does open up a bunch of possibilities (and probably cans of worms).

Then there's the issue of making a part yourself, vs. buying a resin conversion...

Not something I'm getting in the middle of, but I can see both sides as well as the arguments pro and con.

So got to black basing my Hasagawa 1/72 F9F-8 Cougar and thought it looked like some kind of really cool whiff possibility. This one however is going to be the latest addition to my USN Jolly Rogers collection. I'm building one of each aircraft that have flown the Jolly Rogers flag. Started with the F4U Corsair and now up to the Cougar. I'm doing the Glossy Sea Blue scheme but wanted to try and give it a faint green chromate undertone thus the green-ish mottling. See how it goes.
