So thought I'd start one of these to log some of my non-whiff builds and general modeling musings.

So working on a Hasagawa 1/72 RF-4B. Started this back last fall but then got kinda frustrated with it and put it back on tue shelf. This is my first big plunge into using PE and the learning curve was getting frustrating. Feeling a bit better about it so decided to give it another go.

The amount of different tools I've got for PE work will shock ya ..take it easy and slow ..that's what works for me mate 👍 🙂

😆....a bloody good question mate.. PE is Photo Etch ..metal parts normally made of brass and some times stainless steel...like in some early AFV Club kits .
A company called Arber do 2 sets of PE for the Tamiya 18ton Famo halftrack..these sets are so scarey that you'd loose sleep over em ..ask me how I know  :banghead:

So I'd saves the folded wing tips from an Airfix FGR.2 for this kit because I wanted to have the wingtips folded up. However didn't look right, the amount of detail on the Airfix vs this Hasagawa was just too different, so sticking with the kit ones. Also remembered why I hate masking open cockpits (gotta protect all that precious PE)  :banghead:  :o

Ok so now to the fun. One of my favorite parts of doing an F-4 is the exhaust nozzle and ramp area. For some modelers it's a whole work of art unto itself. I'm going to try using these MiG Ammo Atom metallics for the first time so we'll see how it goes.

Ok not too bad. Want to capture what I did so I can remember for next time. Had to add a couple of Vallejo colors as well as try out my new AK acrylic pencil set. Overall like how it came out. Long weekend so may even get to some painting the rest of the aircraft.

Ok so I keep de-specking this build as I go. I've decided that at this scale the PE just isn't adding enough bang for the buck. I was going to go with an open canopy but the pain of adding all the canopy rails just doesn't seem worth it. So closed canopy it is.
