Nothing wrong with changing your mind as you go - as long as you're happy with the end result, that's all that matters.
And there's always the next build.

So far all my F-4 models are 1/72 but as some point I want to do a 1/48 (probably Meng) and a 1/32 (probably Tamyia) as real show pieces. When I ever get to those I'll try bringing in the 3rd party detailed mods.

Bigger, and easier to work on... though the flip side is more space to detail up... comme ci, comme ca.

So had some struggles with the canopy rails because of the prevailing attempt with the PE. Long story short ended up sanding down the area around the canopy and repriming and repainting. So now at least I can get on with the decals this weekend hopefully.

So trying out AK Colored Pencils for the weathering. They have a nice range of colors and easy enough to use. Need to play around with them still but like it so far.

Ok so calling this one done. Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. Definitely did not come out as well as I had hoped. After all the problems with the PE stuff things were just a constant struggle with the build, all of it on me, not the kit. The kit is a standard Hasagawa Phantom, so maybe not the best but not the worst. I was going for an "end of cruise" kind of look weathering wise so hopefully it's kinda close to the right.  Most all was done with Mig Ammo Atom paints which I was happy with. Also I was happy with the use of the AK acrylic pencils for some of the weathering, and I figured out my issues with panel line washes (TLDR, don't mix acrylic wash with acrylic varnish). Again not quite the end result I'd hoped for but there's always more Phantoms in the stash.

Ok this is kinda scary, kind nuts. So our friend @Spino has done some really cool stuff with 3D printing lately. I've just played around with it and used it for small stuff by finding existing designs online or by making my own simple stuff in TinkerCad. I do have some more complicated things I'd like to do but haven't found the time to learn a proper 3D modeling tool.

I think I've also mentioned before that we are doing a fair amount with different AI tools at work. So I tried a little experiment the other day. I asked ChatGPT if it could generate an STL file for me if I described it. Lo and behold it could. So one idea I have for a project combines a number of F-8 Crusader studies and proposals the Vought did. One of which involved a new wing (the V-456 project). So I gave ChatGPT some images of the wing, and some of the technical information (sweep, root/tip ratio, etc...) and after a bit of going back and forth it was able to generate something pretty close to what I wanted. I"m sure with a bit more iterating I could probably get it to generate even more detail, plus some of the additional mods.

This stuff is getting pretty wild.  :o

Yeah I'm not big on that AI stuff.  However if you want any of the files I have created feel free to reach out.  I plan on doing a Vought V-1100 at some point, and I've got another XF8U-3 variant in the pipeline too.  Plus some other stuff that has been sitting around waiting to get put together.

1/72 Airfix Willys Jeep and Friend. So this is something a bit new for me. So far everything I've built has wings. However I've got this little diorama project on the side for all my little Phaux Phantom warbirds. I watched Plasmo build a little Willys Jeep and thought that would work well with the diorama. At the same time I came across this 3D print file for a Willys Jeep that was about the same scale so I figured I'd try a double build. Straight out of the box I just put the machine gun from the Airfix on the 3D print one and added a PE ammo belt. A fun little distraction, now back to things with wings

That print isn't too shabby, is it?

Be warned though, once you open that door, you will find all sorts of stuff you never knew was available, and you Simply Must Have!

I think the print is intended more for tabletop wargaming than scale modeling but it gets the job done. The designer has a whole bunch of other WW2 vehicles. One of the guys in our local IPMS club is into the wargaming and brought a bunch of kit that he uses. It's pretty cool stuff.

As for the 3D printing, I've already fell down that rabbit hole head first :o . I recently redid my workspace and all of the peg board accessories were 3D printed. And in my little Gunslingers diorama everything except the base and the birds were 3D printed from files I found online.

I hear you... currently have lots of printed stuff to finish... sighs

As for wargames models being ok for display, check out my 1/35 Fox a/c on my blog, which was printed from a 1/76 wargames download.
Minor shortcomings aside, it was a heap cheaper than a resin kit, and I'm happy with it.
