I hadn't realised that a new Mirage IV existed Trevor, what's it like?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Arrived today, Modelcollect MAZ 7911 heavy truck, it was a tenner less than anywhere else, so thought, yep you'll do. I am going to put the sam 6 missiles on the back of it, the flat bed looks big enough.
Also a new cutting mat as my current one is covered in paint

Some decals from Two Roberts today...Three F-18 sheets, including two from US Centennial of Naval Aviation with some nice sorta whiffy blue F-18s and a nice China Lake A-4E with lots of orange.  Also a F-5E Aggressor sheet.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

I hadn't realised that a new Mirage IV existed Trevor, what's it like?

I've got one.  Looks good in the box.

Over the last few days I have received;

From www.clearlyscale.com in Canadia;
1/25 Ford DOHC 351ci V8 with Monstercharger.
3 x 1/25 ZF Transaxles.
These are an unusual pale green resin and are superbly cast.  I have other engine kits from them but have yet to assemble one.  However, if they go together as well as they look then they will be fantastic.

From BNA Modelworld;
2 different sizes of 1/35 bow shackles (not different enough to be honest - but they will suffice).
1 tin Humbrol enamel 133 (my goto for basic rust).

Fred

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Saw a conversion set (B727) on eBay for $2. TWO DOLLARS. I had to have it....   Shipping was only $6. When the stuff arrived, it turned out there are TWO sets! The sheets were sandwiched together.. So for $8 grand total I have this:

It even came with a nice thick sheet of styrene. I can use it to make bulkheads and what not. These were made by Griffin. I had never heard of them. I have no idea how accurate these are, etc, but for four stinkin' dollars a piece I'm happy to roll the dice.

As luck would have it, I turned around after buying these and found ANOTHER, this time by ATP. A little more expensive but still what I thought was a good deal at a little under $13 after shipping.

ATP. Definitely know them! Quality stuff. I don't know anything about this conversion fuselage though, but I imagine it's "better" than stuff in main stream OOB kits (otherwise what would be the point...) .

On that note, if anyone knows literally anything at all about both the ATP and Griffin sets then regale me, please.

Seeing as how you ask so nicely......... ;D

Originally both Airfix and Revell put out their 727-100 kits, both of which were pretty good, the Airfix one being slightly
more finer detailed to my mind. But many of the airlines were flying the longer -200s by then and so Griffin released their conversion fuselage for either of the two -100 kits. It's very good indeed, and fits either of the -100 kits nicely.

Griffin didn't last very long for some reason and the conversion vanished from the shelves, so ATP did one instead. (Rumour had it that the ATP version was moulded from a mould taken from a Griffin one, but who's to say is that's correct? The Griffin ones always seemed a bit crisper, so it could be right.)

Later still Airfix re-cut their -100 moulds to make the -200 so conversions weren't needed any more.

Of course that meant the only -100 in town was the Revell one, and they've been OOP for ages, so oddly what we now need is a -100 conversion! It's not just a case of sawing down a -200, the doors & windows are in different places and the #2 engine intake is a different shape too.

Good haul there BTW.  :thumbsup:

Thank you!! Happy to have the intel.  :lol:

Looking at them, they don't look very similar and indeed the detail on the Griffin is much more crisp whereas a lot of it isn't on the ATP one at all. The nose shapes seem a bit different as well. None of this necessarily means that they were from different original moulds, though, - just an observation. Some of the detail on the Griffin stuff is over done for the scale so that could be why it was omitted later on when(if) ATP got the molds. More observation. So... yeah... I can't tell, either, if they were or weren't from different moulds even holding them in my hands.  ;D

Here's where I can help, however.... Revell put their 727-100 back out again in 2016 and they can be had pretty readily still!

I've been wanting to pick up one of these boxings for some time now to check it out.

AFAIK Revell in Europe don't sell the 727-100 kit, but then they're in deep with Airbus so that may be part of the contract.

In the current catalog, along with their other Boeing aircraft.

I'll believe it when I see one in the shops..........

Mind you, most LHSs tend to ignore the airliner market unless it's first release of a new Revell Airbus kit.
