When she's asked where she's from, she always says "Holland", pronouncing it "Hollande", with a cut-short extra syllable on the end. I've no idea if she thinks that's strictly correct or not, but it seems to be the universal term understood around the world, especially by those with little English.

An interesting person!   Pedants will note that she was  actually  born in the province of Zeeland,  but reckons that  "Hollande" is more easily understood.

Here's a fun one for you;

The term for a white person (since before colonisation) in the north of Australia (especially Arnhem Land) is "balanda", which is a corruption of "Hollander" - loaned from the Makasar "Balanda", via the Malay "Belanda", from the Portuguese "Holanda".
Has a life outside of What-If & wishes it would stop interfering!

Quote from: NARSES2 on September 04, 2025, 12:51:47 AMwe don't say "Cheese from the Netherlands".

It's normally Cheese from the Supermarket

No, no. I'm lucky enough to have a cheese shop, or rather a deli that specialises in the food of the God's, neearby and when I visit family in Sunderland there is a wonderful cheese shop in Newcastle's Grainger Market.

I watched several of her videos. Amazing photography and she's fearless: https://www.youtube.com/@ItchyBoots/videos

I know we've had a bit of chat about languages etc recently, and I saw this today which amused me  ;D

English is what happens when Vikings learn Latin and use it to shout at Germans, and then the French shout back.

Duly passed on to anyone I thought would be amused, so thanks.

Very little progress on the modelling bench this week, and likely next as well. To many domestic tasks that I've being putting off for ages

Meanwhile my brain suddenly woke up to the thought that 8 weeks today I will be travelling to Telford for SMW 2025, where does time go ? Need to get my train tickets organised for the best rates

Having said the above I managed to get some time at the bench this morning

The H-75 has had it's underside painted and I've started the psr on the Fw 187's wings/cowling fit.

Talking of the 187 I needed a couple of tropical filters for the intakes. Now I knew I had some from the various AZ Me 109's I've built, but I didn't realise just how many small parts were in my "oods and sods" spares box, and most of them I have no idea what they are or where they came from  :banghead:  Anyway I found them in the end, so

As an aside my spares boxes are fairly well organised, but I think I need to go through and reorganise a couple of them

Up to a certain point it is easy to rummage through what is in them if you are looking for something specific.  But then there is too much stuff and it becomes impossible without pulling it out onto a tray.  I think shallow containers are better as one then cannot fill them beyond the point of rummaging impossibility.

I use empty and cleaned Margarine tubs. A strip of masking tape on the lid to write the kit manufacturer and subject, and there you go. Cheap, readily available and economical.

Except I don't use Marg', purely a butter man  ;) Seriously my spares are no where near that organised. The only things that are really specific are "weapons" boxes which are clearly labled by nation and type of weapon. As they are mostly WWII era it's not that complicated, Lawd help modern era modellers.

That's exactly what I had to do

If you want, I can bring a few with me to Telford. No trouble and no cost.
