Was that before of after you headed for the hills scooter?

Regrettably neither, Kit.  National Guard call up prevented me from doing so.  Although we managed to not lose power this year, unlike last with Irene

Scooter, I live over in Delaware, about 6 or 7 miles north of Dover AFB.  A small town called Leipsic.  We had severe winds, heavy rain, and the power went out for @ 30 minutes this morning (Tuesday).  BAD local flooding, some trees down, but nothing serious.  How about you?

Just before I went online I heard a helicopter heading SW to NE.  National Guard?  Medical?  It's the first thing I've heard flying since Sunday morning.

AC got flooded from the storm surge, along with a lot of coastal towns.  Boardwalk pretty much was ripped away.  Didn't get to see much, as I was stuck manning radios at sqdn headquarters.  A number of roads buckled and washed away as well.  My place, however, safe and sound.

I came out of church this morning and was overflown by a B-17 as I drove down the road.  I really wasn't expecting it and had to look twice.  The problem is that Jacksonville has a few squadrons of P-3 Orions which look like a B-17 at a great distance because of the tail and four engines.  This was close enough, though, that I could make out the yellow squadron codes and OD paint job.  Florida really can be a spotter's paradise some days.

Cheers,

Logan

Only in America! What a wonderful shot Logan, well done.

Thanks, but that's not my shot. I was just using that as it's illustrative of the aircraft I saw.  I just had my phone with me at the time and that shot wouldn't have been worth posting.

Nothing today because of the nor'easter, but we've been seeing Blackhawks, Ospreys, and Sea Stallions galore over the beach.  Even saw the Navy's new blimp the other day.  And sightseers lots of light ac buzzing the deck, makes me want to see if Warren Grove Range has some smokey sams to deter them.

Yeah, I've not seen much lately in Jax because of the schizophrenic weather down here, but I've been hearing a good deal of Orions, Seahawks, and Hornets, lately.

The highlight of my spotting day today was sitting in traffic and hearing a real clear *wop wop wop* way in the distance.  Getting louder and loader, a two-bladed Huey appeared behind my car as it flew overhead.  It didn't have the pointed nose, so it wasn't a USMC UH-1N.  I honestly think it was a UH-1H and you don't see many of those around at all anymore.

Cheers,

Logan

Hmm, took a look at who's still flying UH-1Hs in the area and it may have been a NASA UH-1H out of Cape Canaveral (3 still flying), a Florida Forest Service UH-1H (4 still flying), or Army Aviation Heritage Foundation's N426HF, which I'm almost certain I've seen at airshows before.  It could even have been a Department of State Air Wing UH-1H heading down to Patrick AFB.

Cheers,

Passing over as I type this.  5   (yes, five)  Chinooks in line astern, coming in  from the west  and heading slightly north of east.  I assume that  they are heading for the Otterburn ranges.    All  fairly low.........noisy  blighters, aren't   they!     I  think  they were 7  Sauadron  (ident letter E)  but I didn't get the binoculars out in time to get a good look

I was working at home today when half a dozen Pilatus PC-9As flew overhead from RAAF Pearce Airbase here in Western Australia.  I often hear them but rarely see them, usually coming out too late.  What is interesting is how they always sound like they're going flat out, hell for leather.  Very distinctive sound.

Doesn't the PT-6 run at a constant speed the whole time? AFAIK the different thrust settings comne from the changing prop pitch.

This comes from observation of the behaviour of Flight Simulator models with PT-6 engines rather than a study of references anywhere else mind you.  ;D
