Pulled into our hotel here in Niagara Falls and I hear a jet....look up to see a Hornet buzzing around. Pull out the camera and snapped a few pics, and noticed it was a super Hornet ! First time for me. Then I zoomed in and realized it was a Growler ! He did a few laps and left. Cool

Imagine my surprise this morning during my walk at the beach when a RAN Seahawk helicopter flew over, along the beach.  What it was doing ~40km north of the naval base I have no idea.  Perhaps a proving flight or something?  Anyway, looked rather nice.

I bet they were more surprised than you.  "Sh*t, he's seen us.  Look innocent and try and fly in a nonchalant manner until we're behind that sand dune".

Wasn't painted black mate...   :banghead:

Ah, but now we all know to watch out for black ones They have painted them normal military colours...

Is there a number of attractive ladies on the beach? That will tell you what they were doing!

I think I prefer the more open nature of Canadian society.  Their surveillance aircraft have "SURVEILLANCE SERVICE" titles on the side...  That way you know they are watching you!   ;D

North Perth doesn't have all that many good beaches.  The coast consists mainly of a lot of low limestone cliffs.  Where I was, it was one of the few good beaches but the weather was a little chilly for sun bathing (by Australian standards).  Summer hasn't really kicked in here yet.  We are only experiencing mid-twenties temperatures at the moment.   :banghead:

Reminds me of a build i'll get to one day - A Lindberg Dodge Charger cop car with "FBI UNMARKED VEHICLE" on the doors.

Not a plane but a meteor just streaked past right over our house not ten minutes ago going in a north-east direction. Very bright light with a long tail which broke up quite quickly, which looked like one of those flare dispensing demonstrations military aircraft do at airshows. Never seen one before this --

They can be quite spectacular! I saw one burn bright green once. Lasted only a couple of seconds and no one else saw it.

I'm so jealous! The only one I've ever experienced exploded before we could see it. We heard a bang but assumed it was a run-down truck (we saw leaving moments before) backfiring, then saw a funny little cloud in the sky and Dad joked it was a rocket re-entering! Here's local news coverage of it:

Meteor or Meteorite?  IIRC if it hits the ground it's a meteorite and if it burns up its a meteor.

It burnt up in the sky, didn't hear anything but it appeared to burst with lots a small balls of light going in every direction. It lasted about 30 to 40 seconds before the burst, then nothing.  Of course it could have just bounced off the atmosphere's edge

En route back from Gloucester this afternoon, around 1600 hrs so it was dusk at this time of the year, I saw this very odd shape fairly low in the sky above the west bank of the Severn. At that time I was driving only a few yards from the River so it was coming to (or going.....) directly at (or away...) from me. It didn't seem to have any firm shape, just a dark blob in the sky, and then it switched on a pretty bright white light, so I figured it was coming at me.

I was starting to think 'UFO?'  :o when the whole thing rolled to its left and headed across to my right, towards the Forest of Dean, and it became obvious it was a Chinook, and pretty low it was too.

In that light I couldn't see a sign of the rotors when it was head on, and that rear pylon and the prominent side bulges (maybe it was an HC3?) made for a very weird shape.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
