I alluded to it on FB earlier: I think the US is finally making its move to take the Canuckistani oilfields.

Didn't one former Commander-in-Chief once refer to a foreign oil find as 'ours'?
Didn't hear anything like that again, so presumably the Handlers gave him a gentle talking-to...

I went out to the shed a couple of minutes ago to get more logs for the woodburner in the living room, and heard the roar of aero engines.  It was a pair of Herculeses   flying west at (guesstimate ) about 500 feet.  Which leads to several questions:-
1)  What were the RAF doing out that late?.......shouldn't they be settled down with their Horlicks and a bedtime story?
2)  What, if anything, are the Llandrindod Wells Action Front up to now?
3)  Were the "Hereford Cowboys" playing out late?......and do their mothers know?
4)  Why were they both showing minimal lights?

The easy answer for 1 and 4 is "Tactical Night Flying".

I just had my xmas eve interrupted.  Not complaining though.
We have two Air Cranes bombing fires in Victoria this season.  Malcom & Ichabod.
This is Ichabod coming...

...and going...

Not sure what he was doing as no fires were reported close to us and it was only a few minutes between passes.  I suspect they were training or familiarising themselves with the local water source (Devilbend Reservoir judging by the direction and time) loading up there and then dumping it into Port Phillip Bay.

I'd love to see one of those for real, they're awesome machines.

I built the Revell kit years ago, but whiiffed in a 'Mogul Oil' scheme from the BBC TV series 'The Troubleshooters', and it's still around somewhere.

Captain Canada

Those are so cool. One flew right over us when we were on a rig years ago it was amazing !

In my news, I just spent a week working in a 40 mile radius of Selfridge ANG base, and the only thing I saw was the Sheriff's helicopter !  :banghead:

THE TROUBLESHOOTERS....... Good heavens I can remember that, back in the late 1960's.   It changed from black and white to colour towards the end of the run

That's right, and it was that bright orange colour of their logo that persuaded me to build the Skycrane with one of their containers hung underneath.

I wrote to the producer and asked if he could send me some examples of their 'corporate image' and I got a letter back on Mogul paper (!) with all the details AND three Mogul badges! I still have one of them somewhere.  ;D

The Skycrane has a most odd engine sound, from my limited experience of the type a couple of summers ago when it flew over my house here in Perth.

The Troublemakers?  I remember my father watching that show when it was shown downunder.  I seem to remember he enjoyed it a great deal.   I remember starting to get interested just as the series ended!  :(

How old were you then Kit and how old did the producers think you were ?  ;D

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I was in my low 30s at the time, but I sent them a pic of the completed, but unpainted model, so I guess they didn't reckon I was a kid anyway.  ;D

The Skycrane has a most odd engine sound...

It certainly was loud and didn't sound anything like a dubbed for TV chopper.

Today, when seeing off the rellies i looked up and immediately thought of Kit when I saw a pair of pelicans circling way up high.
There's rain on the way so I expect they were looking for some sheltered waters (free of sky cranes).
They were too high to photograph but here's an interweb picture - look at those wings!

Magic stuff, thanks so much.  ;D

Now that's what I call longer wings!
