Multi-Partner What If Group Build

B777LR's thread about the A380 construction gave me a great (or really dumb) idea for a new Group Build:

Someone takes a kit or a portion of a kit, builds it up to some degree, ships that sub-assembly on to another What If modeller on a pre-determined list who in turn does his part. Maybe adds some new twist, different wings or whatever and sends it to the next person on the list until the final person finishes the last of it and displays it on the forum.

There could be a pre-determined time frame for each stage of construction, just like in real-world multi-national/corporate engineering/manufacture.

Could do it for any subject: aviation, armor, auto, naval, sci-fi, architectural, etc.

Call it the Multi-Partner What If Group Build.

I know, I know:
- I'm not allowed in any such group build 'cause you'd never see it again after it reaches my door;
- what if it gets lost or busted in transport?
- if a "prize" was to be donated, how would one provide it?
- who gets to keep the finished product?

Finally somebody who calls me B777LR, and not 777, 77, or widebody (i am not fat).
It would be interesting to have a multi partner GB, but can we trust the partner?

I never do group builds because I'm just not a 'joiner' but I'd be in for this, without doubt.

I think it would definitely need a 'Project Manager' to co-ordinate the effort.

If I'm in, the project will be a biplane with spats by the time I pass it on. I love spats!

Yes, you can trust the partner.

Trust me on that.

Oh, unless the sub-assembly was sent to me, where it would sit and sit as I over-engineered the thing to death.

Trust me.

Oh, I am sooo confused, now.

How about one person builds the model, then sends it to another to be diorama-icized?

Yeah, that'd have problems, too.  <_< Who keeps the model?
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

This isn't a wife swapping thread is it?

Maybe we could just move into each others houses and have to use their bench and supplies?

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

This is kinda neat. How about done on a Nation vs Nation level? A competition build with national bragging rights? Teams of say minimum of 4 max of 6. Countries can field as many teams as possible but members of a team can only be on one team.

You could also have it as an option that each member buys the same kit and repeats his component so that each member eventually has a copy of the model. each team would have to submit a photo of each member's finished model for the competition to be complete.

Just imagine, one guy does cockpits. Another does say landing gear, weapons and dangly bits, major subassemblies, one guy does final major assembly and sanding/re-scribing and the last guy does finished paint and markings. Then everyone receives their finished painted model, assembles the landing gear and bombs and such and takes photos.

OH-OH!!! How about flight demonstration teams so you have each model with a different number on the tail!!!

You could even select subjects related to their national identity if you wanted to.
Team Canada, Arrow of course
Team England, TSR2 naturally
Team USA, XB-70, wow! (lotsa choices)
Team Australia/New Zealand, RAAF/RNZAF F-22
Team Europe, lotsa Dassault and Saab projects to choose from
That would be a kinda box stock build. Now if ya wanna go nuts... let yer inaginations run wild, but the planning would be even more intense.

You know what else would be kinda cool. Trophies for this. if each team pitched in say three bucks a member, I'd be willing to run out and have custom What If Modeler. Com trophies made for each member!

PS appoligies to ship and armour guys, I tend to only do airplanes so my mind is kinda locked there. The principles would be the same.

Judging would have to be sorted out. I dunno how, perhaps by non-participants.

Baz, you is a genius dude!

Interesting Team ideas, Gary, though you can't lump Team Michigan/Sarnia (Ok, Team Sarnia/Michigan, the canucks can get top billing  :P  Oh, frack it, Team Lake Huron!) in with Teams Canada or USA!

Anyways, Team Lake Huron - GLORIOUS Soviet naval aviation in Canadian markings!!!
I exist to pi$$ others off!!!

I asked my wife about this idea..all I got out was "Some of the guys on "What-If' have this "Multi-Partner Group..."

and she decked me!
I mean, WHAT was she thinking I meant?
Then again, I should NEVER have let her read any of Rads posts, especially the RHPS stuff! :)

Oh, and no, I'm not wanting in on this...like Howling Mouse, once here, it would never leave! :(

I'll do the spats!

Did I mention that I love spats?

Ok, maybe a build with national teams might not work. However, it does seem that lads located somewhat near to each other might be good. Sort of naturally fall into the national category.

Lets not let this idea die guys. It sound like too much fun.

Right then, I'm willing to be the first member on my team. Anyone wanna join me?

Anyone?

Awww come on guys, someone be on my team?

please.....
