Hi.  If you take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Downfall and then https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Downfall_order_of_battle (there's a link to the order of battle early in the Op Downfall pages) plus https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commonwealth_Corps&wprov=rarw1 (link at the end of the OOB page).

Mention has been made of Italy and Mexico in this thread.

Otherwise see Rule 2 for scope.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, I wasn't as clear as I could be. I meant countries that may have spun off from the defeated Axis forces in Europe or like Thai or Manchurian forces that wanted true independence and the like?

No problem, Charlie_c67 (by 'eck I always want to say Charlie_xcx!).  Previous reply still applies, I'm afraid.

Well, I came home to a box full of plastic parts and a sheet of transfers just awaiting the starting gun today

Something to bear in mind is that it was expected to be a grind and, as the Operation Downfall Order of Battle link shows in regards to when various armies, corps, units etc. would rotate in, that the subject doesn't have to be in the first wave of Olympic.

It gives a lot more wiggle room in regards to accelerated timelines for some aircraft types.
😉

It's not hard to see Olympic (Majestic), the Southern Honshu campaign, ending up like Okinawa on a grander scale, equally brutal but covering over three times the area. The possibility of the Coronet operations in the Kanto plain turning into something like Vietnam isn't beyond the range of possibility. The armoured divisions coming from Europe would have been in for abrude awakening once they encountered the rice paddies.

Reading the grandiose plans for airfield construction post invasion, both Olympic and Coronet, is borderline hilarious as they're all based on assumptions as to how fast they'd be able to control an area and start construction, cooperative weather etc., optimistic barely covers it. Evidently as of August it still hadn't been decided where
the engineers were all going to come from, there was a shortage, and the various corps and armies were in pissing matches over it: "those are my engineers, you can't have
them", "I need them more than you do" etc.
🤣
There's a possible What-If, Royal Engineers with earth-mover Churchills building airfields for Commonwealth aviation units. Maybe two Churchills supporting a massive grader blade between them?
🤔

Taken from Modern British Aeroplanes by Charles Gardiner  from 1949. Also has some interesting and upbeat descriptions of other British designs of the time.

Got another idea based on the Douglas DC-4 but with the wings and landing gear taken from the Avro Lincoln. Not quite a Avro Tudor but along similar lines, engines will be Rolls-Royce Merlins Mk85s.
Okay parts from the Airfix/Revell Avro Shackleton MR.2/AEW.2, with modifications to the engines so they look the part.

The Avro Taunton? The Douglas Derby?

Thanks for the name suggestions.
I can use the Airfix Avro Lancaster B.2 wings, engines and landing gear instead of the Shackleton's, just make the wings longer to the length of the DC-4/DC-6.

I now have a problem ...

Over on BtS they/ve announced the next GB (starting 1st April) for which I have two planned builds which would be appropriate, & I have five (yes, five - seven, if you include the two I returned to the stash)) potential builds for this GB.  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Looks like I'll have to try to alternate between the GBs, one build at a time (I'll be lucky if I finish one, let alone the four I'd like to do as a minimum).

Why did I suggest the Avro Audenshaw?

Think of Avro products.

Audenshaw sits between Manchester and Ashton (i.e. Ashton-under-Lyne).  I went to secondary school there.

The Avro Alderley perhaps, as it's on the Edge  of being both an  Avro and a Douglas product.

Very clever.

So we're ruling out the Avro Altrincham and the Avro Ancoats.

No.  You just need to work out builds that fit both.

I just had a look at what their subject is.  They have much more concise rules than we do.
