I rode mine into a hedge and broke my teeth in the process! :(

Not sure Mr Pellson's excellent analogy worked too well for me.

Thanks a lot for everyone's encouragement, highly appreciated.

In the meantime I actually DID some more work, even though it's hardly recognizable. Basic painting has been finished (with the radomes), I applied an overall washing with a highly thinned mix of black ink and dark grey acrylic artist paint (as a kind of bluish filter as a match for the low-viz cammo) and started, once dry, to wet-sand the surface for a cloudy/worn and uneven look.

Good nws: thiongs keep moving, but at glacial speed, partly due to the sheer size of the surface areas which I have to treat with paint effects. But we get there, and the low-viz scheme suits the big bird well!

...and finally a view with (still) dry-fitted fin and canopies:

Decal safari next. The original plan to create a VAQ-135 machine failed, but now it's VAQ-137 ("Rooks"), which is plausible, too, even though I will have to use black instead of grey-in-grey markings, what is a bit too "modern" for the intended time frame.

Thanks a lot, Pellson, and BTW: the nose/radome is painted with Revell 75!

YW, mate. It's deserved.  ;)

Having checked, I used Revell 45 light olive for my Draken intakes. That will not go on any radome, but it came out nicely as glass fibre intake edges.

I wish that my painting skills were as good as this

Good choice. I have several books about Swedish aircraft, and the Draken intakes apparently have a rather unique greenish color, and Revell 45 is not a bad choice. Checked my own A35 G Draken build, and I used a rather dark olive grey-green tone with an even slightly darker intake lip - but I did not note which colors I actually used, maybe Humbrol 66 mixed with some lighter grey. Wanted to catch the translucent/unpainted look of the real-world parts, at least according to the color pics I had for reference. ;-)

That's good to know Thomas, thanks. I'll try that on one of my radomes.

Nothing new to show, but yesterday saw decal session #1 with basic markings, and it was ...successful. Not 100% as originally envisioned, but I now try to use simple black markings all over the hull for consistency, and it works quite well. :)

Ah, the Big Vig is stalling again a bit, because other things called for attention. But it's "alive"!  ;)

More small progress on the ordnance, and the decal safari provided surprisingly many tiny bits that have to be applied soon, too...

That decal safari.. Having totally emptied decal sheets to a couple of Fujimi and Hasegawa F-4's, for many years I just couldn't be arsed to go too far into stencilling. Then, when building those Luftwaffe Norm 81 fighters a few years ago, a lust to decorate a little more returned, if not to any kind of F-4 extent. And now I've actually gone rather far in particular with the Drakens. Maybe a sign that I'm getting old..

Looking fwd to the odd in-progress pic, still.. ;)
