Better than sending it to landfill.

It's amazing what you can reuse, that you've had kicking around sometimes for years.
Of course, remembering you have it and finding it, those are the tricks!  ;D

I can see one problem with a gun fed from below, the empties should come out of the top! The idea about the recuperation system being on the outside of the turret, will it not get in the way of it rotating?

I'm guilty of saving all kinds of stuff. Today I had to lean a ladder on freshly painted walls. I didn't want to screw up the paint job by scrapping it up with the ladder so I got out the foam packaging material I had saved. A little duck tape and the ladder was nicely padded. Isn't that what they call up cycling?

I put socks on the top of the ladder.

I've used an old towel for such purposes

Al I take taken your issues and i'm going to totally ignore them  ;D  ;D  ;D
Nope ,,kidding
The ammo being fed from below means the shells get ejected from the side and get kicked out the front of the turret ,,another way is the shells drop out beside the feed chute and pushed out the front of the turret ,,its a similar way the shells get ejected like the systems used on the russian weapons like the ZPV-14.4mm or ZSU-23-2 .
The recoil system is pretty much like on the Oeriikon 20mm cannons with the springs being in over the barrel will put all that outside the turret and that will keep the barrels in the same place as originals and that should give it full motion of movement ,,the real fun part will be the mounting of it ,,this is not going to be easy ,,its taken over 30hrs plus on the nose turret as it is now ,,this is going to take twice that  :o
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .

I have not heard or know of a system that has a 90o change in direction of cartridge in/cartridge out, it's usually in for one side and out the other, so 180o. Not saying that it can't be done, I just don't know of one.

50cal Browning Al ...the ammo comes in from  left ..the links go out the right ,,the shells drop straight out the bottom ..pretty much the same idea i've got here and to save the problems with the links ..all turrets will use linkless ammo fed from electrically powered ammo drums ..its wiffy world coming to play on that part  <_<

Some work has been done to this thing including a wee bit of sanding and hacking of putty ..

A day or two later ,,yesterday in fact i had a play with turrets ,,well the start of it anyway ,,the cannon upgrades seemed to be going well then like most things in my world i figured i could make em look better but i needed to figure out how and so heres the first ideas and ,,yeah ,,not happy with this first attempt .

Here's a couple of pics of what the first five steps i am doing ,,per gun .

That brass tube in the second pic to give ya some ideas of the trouble i've created for myself is ,,,,  1.5 mm
The next fun part will be some form of flash hider for those barrels ..i'm going to try and make them with that 1.5mm brass tubing because the alloy tubing is far to soft ...yep ..i tried .

The second iteration looks much better, mate!

Don't we all create more work for ourselves than we need to to get the look we want?

Thanks mate,,i agree ,,No2 is better for sure  ;D
I also made a little correction ..its 1.5mm tubing ,,,not 1 mm ...as for the making more work ,,oh to so bloody true   :banghead:  ;D

Looks great Phill, but no springs?  I thought that would look good.  You could wrap them from 0.5mm wire.

Thanks mate  ;D
I've got springs more than small enough to do that ,,the flint springs from Bic lighters are super small but of course i totally forgot about that part ,,i was looking for strength as the connection points for the barrels is bloody small and rather weak ,,the barrels are .8mm thick and have good strength but where they fit into the turret is weak as hell and when i drilled into the guns the bloody thing fell out  :banghead:
So i went with the collar in front of the turret with a sleeve to support the barrel which worked a treat .
Could say that the collar contains the springs inside it to protect em from the 35.000 plus ft this bird will be flying at and the extremely cold air  outside  ;)

I've used a coil/wrap of 5-amp fuse wire for springs.

And as has been said, "The back story can always be altered to fit the build."

Coming along well, Phill.

I think I use the smallest Amp wire for the cords in radios ..well I used to anyway..now I use extremely thin wire I get from my wire collection...it's wire from electrical components ive ripped to bits and man i've got a heap of it to play with now ..wire from .2mm and up

A small update for me fellow humans..for the non-humans don't look
The nose turret change is happening and oh its gonna be so much better...ive already got the general layout sorted and how I want it to function and I think it's going to be very good indeed..much better than the first one ☺️

USB cables have some nice thin wire inside them.
