Right ,,here we go ,,,
Now i'm pretty sure most of us have seen pics of this mutant B-17 ..

I've had this idea in my head ever since i was gifted two aircraft ,,both Monogram 1/48th scale bombers ..a B-17 and a B-24 .
I didn't want to build another one of the above aircraft ,,i wanted something different and of course you guys know me well enough i reckon that you know it's not going to be normal by any means .
I didnt want a bomber cause the B-17's bomb bay doors don't open ,,so i had another idea ,,a bomber escort ,,this was tried with both planes in the RW in WW2 and yeah as you can figure ..not a success ,, but in wiffy world this isn't a problem ,,its gonna have guns ,,lots of em ..

To be different i'm gonna use the B-24's wings which is going to take a ton of hacking and slashing to get to world but when you guys get to see the amount of bits i have to play with your gonna be shocked ..it's quite a few  ;D
I'm not kidding ,,i could turn this into a tri plane with nothing but B-24 wings ..i'm not going to mind you ,,that would be mental
What it will be is turbo propped with ten bladed contra props ,,( thank you very muchly Rick mate ,,that also goes to your mate who made em for me too  ;D  ;D )
I did come across some pics of a WW2 modified B-17 bomber with B-24 turrets or a B-24 turret ,,a nose mounted one ,,i'll see if i can get the pics on here ..

It turns out they mounted one in the back as well .

I will be doing this mod gents .
I am also going to add to the frontal firepower of this too,,the lower chin turret of the B-17 G is going to remain and will be controlled by a chap sitting behind the front turret ,,i did find these pics of pure a grade gold plated nutbar upgrades to the front guns on a B-17

I will not be going down that road  ;D  ;D
I post some pics of the pile of bits very shortly ..more to follow .

That first pic makes the B-17 look very Ju290-ish.  Even though it doesn't actually look like a Ju290!

A B-17 with B-24 wings? NOW you're talking, way to go!

Thanks lads ,,its all because of Mr Lowe that i can now go ahead with this build ,,,,as i told Rick a while back its been the props which have been the issue ,,i wanted contras one this from the get go and yep ,,i did try to go with a single prop idea but it wasnt doing anything for me ,,now i've got the props ,,its now hunting down the parts for  which i can move ahead with now..to the bits boxes!!!

I think the YB-40 might be what you are thinking of. An interesting idea but it was overloaded with guns and ammo so never worked out properly. A couple of aircraft carried 40mm guns!

Yep that's the bugger ,,i already knew of this bird ,,,a good idea just not well thought out as it might have been ,,when the other bombers dropped their loads they got lighter and faster  when our mate here with all the guns was slower right from the get go ,,,mine is going to be much faster i can tell ya
I have zero idea about the SHP of the B-33 but since this is wiffy world i see 2500 being a nice round number

Oh i did find a pic of a B-17 with a 75mm cannon in the tail gunners position ,,,how the hell that was meant to work i have no idea .

That would make it a permanent tail dragger! If it could take off I think the first shot would rip the airframe!

Either that or if they didnt get the mounting solid enough the recoil could send it straight thru the cockpit
That would be a bad day for everyone concerned

Like a punt gun maybe?  Fire a wide spread of large shot at pursuing fighters?

Project Dreamboat ...

"A B-17 bomber, designated the B-17E "Dreamboat", was experimentally fitted with a B-24 nose turret and other B-24 components as part of a project to improve its performance by moving its center of gravity forward. This radical modification, which also included a B-24 style tail turret and a new under-nose gondola for the bombardier, was successful in improving the aircraft's handling but was too extensive to incorporate into the B-17 production line."

Pics of this can be seen here  <https://www.b24.net/aircraftNoseArt.htm>

That looks like a whole page of B-24 nose art, albeit very interesting, but not a modded B-17.
