Step 37/140 Navigation lights  (again)

The starboard hull segment from the previous step was updated with an internal cover to close the hull openings. Unusually, this part is not screws in place; instead, glue is used for this installation.

The green starboard navigation light was then installed and successfully tested.

A railway sleeper?

Having had to heft some of them in my last job, that'd need a concrete plinth of its own!

They used to use old wooden railway sleepers at work to kick start a blast furnace when you wanted to get it started on a new campaign after a re-build. They burn beautiffuly apparently. All that old oil that's dripped on them over the years

I don't know about BR's wooden sleepers, but ours used to be soaked in creosote.

Yes, BR's sleepers were soaked in creosote too, but not the concrete ones of course.

Designed to keep you buying the magazines when it first came out, I would suspect.

@Old Wombat : Of course this is a money trap and I know it. When the first edition is release - with TV commercials etc, its €1.99 or something similar low. And it ocntains something that gived you thw "wow" effect. For the Graf Zeppelin it was the bow, a Ju87 with a electric motor in it and a small test board where you coudl run the engine with.

The following editions will all be €13,99, so depending on what is in it, its overpriced. Like on this step here. And in the ent, after all parts are made, you paid €2000 for it.... But as it is streched over 3 years, you do not see it directly.

When I started with this model, last year, it was more than a year after this edition started, so people whe were there at the beginning are now on part 115 or so already.

So lets jump to this edition now


Step 38/140 A keel section
Not much work was required in this step — a keel section was added to the hull structure.

This improves the overall stability of the hull. The port and starboard sides are built asymmetrically due to the openings in the upper hull structure, which differ on each side.

Real life 1:1 scale projects - aka I have to empy my fathers house completly in the next two weeks - halts all scale model building recently, so I only can work on my little "Sunday morning Graf Zeppelin build right now".



Step 39/140 Another Ju 87 dive bomber

This step includes the assembly of a fifth Ju 87 dive bomber. The propeller, landing gear, and four bombs must be attached and securely glued in place.

In addition, two mounting brackets are fitted to the hull. These will most likely serve as the structural supports for the future flight deck.

Well, the house makes some good progress. one week left until the tennants move in, so still a lot to do.

Therefore its good that the Graf Zeppelin only had a small construction step this week.

Step 40/140 Extending the starboard side

Starting with this step, the next ones will be focusing in adding extensions to the starboard side of the hull. I "fear" this will continue the next weeks.

This was a fast build this week, only two screws to wif the hull part. And as you can see, they usually add a spare screw for each step. Have a lot of them already now
