Step 34/140 Detail work on the hull

A PE part is added and the port navigation light is installed which does function. The PE part has to be fixed a bit.

Step 35/140 Continue with hull starboard side

With this step, construction of the starboard side of the hull continues. Although only two screws are required, the confined space inside the hull makes tightening them somewhat tricky.

At this stage, the ship's weight has now exceeded 2 kg.

The one you get with each IKEA set, just smaller    :banghead:
Have a more "professional" one, but it does not work in the narrow parts.

Step 36/140 And more hull parts (ok, only one)

Work on the hull continues in this step.

An upper hull segment is added to the ship. Since construction has now reached the widest part of the hull, fastening the screws is much easier compared to the cramped and narrow space in the bow section.

Quite interesting that they have choosen an "asymetrical" way to build the hull

The model is now so big that I have to put it on the floor to make a photo of the complete one.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The asymmetry will add an element of rigidity & strength to the hull & it will be less likely to sag on the stand over time.

i admit its looking good so far  :thumbsup:
The length may be a bit of a problem with displaying, but is merely a case of getting the right sized shelf  i wonder what the weight of the model will be when finished ?  the hull and deck panels seem to be fairy robust, and you mentioned a 2 KG weight above on the hull not looking more than 1/3 or so complete  :o

Just what I was thinking - similar to 'stepping' a fuselage join.

@Steel Penguin : The complete model should be about 8kg. The hull is completly made of die cast metal, superstructure and decks are made from  ABS. So I guess the hull will take most of the weight.

I peeked a bit on the upcoming steps. The reason for the asymetrical hull parts is simple: The upper hull has the openings for boats etc. As they were different  on both sides of the ship, the parts for both sides must also be different, therefore there is the different length for them.

thats  a bit heavier than id hoped, but not as much as id feared  :unsure:   when you do finish  i hope they give a good sturdy base to mount it on for display.
