It can be indeed. The X-15B would have been modified structuraly to do so. IRL the F-16 would need vast changes to do so, but its possible in whiffworld.

And there's your blown Hemi.  In order to thoroughly test the running gear of a proposed Moon Buggy a prototype was equipped with an engine so it could be run up and down a (1/4 mile long) test track...

A 1/4 mile? That's a handy distance, not to long, not too short, just right in fact.

I've had an idea for a secret alien group stealing aircraft from different boneyards around the world and modifying them into space fighters or scout ships for their conflict with another race. Keep the cockpit, insert or attach an alien engine, strip the wings down to the spars and attach alien weapons. Of course this sounds pretty sci fi so maybe not in this GB. I'm just throwing it out there for discussion.

Also I saw a pic of an A-4 Skyhawk painted in a space shuttle pattern. Could be a "research vehicle"!

It's not the pic I was thinking of as that was a straight Skyhawk with the tiles and other shuttle details added. Of course I can't find it right now.

Just need some clarification on the atmosphere thingy from the Mods on that ...are moons with an atmosphere good to go ??
Cause if they are I've a build in mind from a book i I had when I was a kid ..it was a two book series on space craft ...one was about the military side of Earth's forces and the other was about the craft used ..both human and alien.
In one picture was this crashed figther of sorts..propeller driven and the pic shows the crew escaping with these fecking great worm things in the background about to attack.
That plane is the basis for the build and I want to base it from either a Mk24 Spitfire or a Spiteful....or both combined 🤔 😀

Believe it or not I found the damn books ..easy as pie 😆 🤣
It's called Spacecraft 2000 to 2100..TTA or Terrain Trade Authority and the military one is the TDA or TDF
It's seems there's like 4 of these books all written by Stewart Cowley and I was thinking I'd love to get these 2 books I had again..then I saw the prices ppl want for wm

Yep Jon ..that's it ...and after a wee bit of hunting I was able to get all four books as PDF downloads ..which I liked 👍
