Inspired by the brief exchange started ny NARSES2 at https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?msg=1079390, but it won't be Hunter-based.

More to follow.....

I've got AC/DC stuck in my head now...
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

If it's in any way British-based then surely it should be called the Thunder-nag/whine/mither (delete as appropriate)?

Right then, here we go.

No modelling on GB day 1 but definitely some today.  The Thunderscreech-ish (struggling to come up with a name, suggestions welcome - it's going to be British I think so think along alliterative lines for something probably Fairey, please) is a mash-up of the dreadful Mistercraft MiG-21, some Merlin Vampire T.11 intakes and resin items kindly donated by Lee quite a while ago, plus bits from the spares box.

Yes it's a dreadful kit purchased ages ago but it was very cheap and was always destined for chopping up - at one stage I considered adding EE Lightning wings and tailplanes but that clearly didn't happen.  Typical of the brand the instructions don't necessarily match the appearance of the plastic, e.g. the ejection seat (on the left) which looks nothing like the item in the instructions:

Next to the kit's planky seat is an ancient Airfix B-57 seat left over from my Canberra F.10 (https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?msg=957614) from a few years back, which has been modified slightly to look a bit more Martin-Bakerish:

It's been fitted into the rudimentary cockpit 'bucket', the attachment points for which have been narrowed to ensure the headrest will fit under the canopy.  I'll definitely be test fitting that before fixing it to the fuselage.

Meanwhile, the Merlin Vampire intakes have been assembled and one fitted to the starboard fuselage half.

More tomorrow.

Looking very promising Dave.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The Supermarine (or Shorts) Strident is a possibility - maybe Shorts? 😂

Maybe the "Swift Shaterling"?

Gondor

I do like the name "Fairey Strident", very British understated.

The build is looking very interesting, though you are going to have to do something with that Fin, it's too MiG-21 as it is.

The name 'Folland Foghorn' (because you can hear it for miles) popped into my head earlier.  But I do like 'Fairey Strident'

As for the MiG fin, yep I know what you mean but I have something in mind.

Some work on it done this afternoon, a spot more this evening.  Update to follow.

Coming round to the idea of this being a Folland so I can finish it in a nice shade of blue with a UK Class B registration, rather like the Folland Midge.  Just for a change.  Anyway.....

Very rudimentary cockpit done (seat straps to follow) and added to the cockpit.

Fuselage halves slapped together (of course there's no location pins, silly you, but the mating surfaces are pretty generously thick) and a replacement jet efflux (from a Revell Hunter) added.

Both wings chopped a bit ready for attaching tomorrow, mustn't forget to drill holes for the u/c legs first, though.

GB day 4 and a fair bit of progress in just over an hour.

Wings, tailplanes and nose attached, plus a fair amount of filler.  Tomorrow is officially PSR Wednesday!

Tested the canopy and unfortunately some filing down of the bang seat has been necessary to get the canopy to fit.

I think it captures the 'essence of Thunderscreech' but also looks very sleek and very fast.

Seems a shame right now to add prop blades when a pair of Firestreaks or Red Tops look more appropriate.  I think it's because I've inadvertently created something strongly resembling a cross between the early Hawker P.1067 layout (see https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?msg=926208) and the initial design of the Hawker P.1103.
