Going right back to your first post on this thread, how available is that kit of the 'SRN5' hovercraft, which is what it is really?

I quite fancy civvie-ising one as the original Southsea-Ryde craft that operated in the 60s, which I travelled aboard more than once.

(You can't quite say 'flew', or 'sailed' vis a vis a hovercraft, can you?  :-\ )

Not very, Kit. I can find two in stock at BNA Models & Metro Hobbies has it "Coming Soon", this may be because it's not your standard AFV fare in 1/35 & isn't cheap (AU$145+/-).

I know it's not available at Hannants (I looked), but I couldn't tell you about anywhere else in the UK.

In 1/35 that's got to be pretty large too!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yeah, she's got a bit of size to her.

Those are 1cm squares behind the PBRs.

Skirts will, obviously, add a bit more dimensionality to her.

Veeeeery interesting!

What are the skirts made from? I've got both scales of the Trumpeter LCAC and their skirts are moulded all in one piece of vinyl, and look pretty good. But the monster Airfix 1/144 scale SRN4's skirts are all solid styrene and take some painting to look any good.

Unfortunately styrene, which means I have to come up with a way that works (for me) to do the "flaccid" skirts (that being the way I'd prefer to go with the build).

They're actually just on the right edge of the photo.

I used Gunze Sangyo 'Tyre Black' for the skirts on my first SRN4, which unfortunately dries pretty gloss, but coat of matt varnish toned it down ok. They're moulded fully inflated on that kit, so I guess they'd need some shadowing when they're deflated, not an easy job. :(

First thing that springs to mind is to build the skirts and then sit them on a hot plate.

First thing that springs to mine is baked beans
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I wrote "flaccid", not "flatulent"!

Nice stuff.. The PACV does have some size. Not for me.. but looking forward to seeing one built.
Back on the radio's, Stick with the Larkspur stuff for a point of difference for your time point. As above.. VHF is VHF.
If you need VRC-46/RT-524 radios, there are a few sources in kits like the Hummvee (spelling optional  ;)  ) Kits mentioned
The AK IDF accessories set has a very nice rendition, along with some other nice bits and pieces,  that is a recent release.

Failing that.. somebody who may or may not be me, might have a mould of the VRC-46 and GRC-160 from the now much missed Aussie Armour resin options. I have used a number in my Australian Landrover Series III FFR conversions over the years

Rick Lowe

Guy, there may be no other way than to sculpt your own flaccid skirts.*

Putty is an option, but you'll need a lot.
Maybe tissue/paper towels and white glue is a better option? Then a thick coat of paint to fill any texture.

*Yes, my mind went silly places whilst typing that...  ;D

Old Wombat

@ BT: Thanks, mate!
I'm not changing the radios now, they were too damned hard to get in in the first place!  ;D
OK, I didn't know about that IDF set ... I'll be looking for it now, though!
          I found these at BNA for pre-order (I've ordered 4);

@ Rick: Putty & tissue are both out, I've done the former & the latter I'm not a fan of, but I think I have some rubberised cloth hiding about the place, somewhere, that might just be perfect for the job ... If I can find it.  ;)

Actual rubber?  Get yourself a big inner tube and cut it up.

That's what the real skirts are made from anyway.
