Same root, it's not actually, but ................ :angel:

As an interesting aside today 30th May is the 66th anniversary of the launching of the first full size experimental hovercraft, the SR-N1. (Courtesy of the I newspaper's daily Anniversaries piece).

Regrettably, no connection between the words in question

Origin of flaccid      First recorded in 1620–30; from Latin flaccidus "flabby, drooping," equivalent to flacc(ēre) "to grow weak, languish"
Origin of flatus        1660–70;  New Latin; Latin:  blowing,

but much more to the point, isn't the i newspaper's anniversaries section fascinating?

It is indeed, and it quite often will come up with a piece that has me digging further into it. :thumbsup:

Just to prove that the PBRs aren't dead, I present you with a bunch of photo's of where they're at (including some smallarms & Eskys);

The dials are from 1/32 Quinta 3D printed decal sets for British aircraft WW2, 1/48 would have been a better size but my enablers didn't have any in stock.

Ditto for the compasses - one worked better than the other.

Waiting on other bits'n'bobs to move a bit further along.

I'm also having additional thoughts about the quad-.50s - like "Do I really want to use Jerry can ammo tins or do I want to use the original 100-rnd ammo cans?*" and "Should I add protection for the reload crew?". the latter inspired by the following images;

Decisions! Decisions!  :rolleyes:

[*: This was because I calculated that the Jerry cans effectively only hold about 200-250 rounds, maybe 300 in a pinch, but would take a considerable time to reload, whereas the 100-rnd cans will be chewed through quicker but can be swapped out faster in the long run than the Jerry cans can be reloaded.]

Very nice 👌 👍
That M45 quad 50 turret is still a wicked bit of kit but mounting it on the PBR might be a problem..it's the weight and that might completely bugger the boats balance.
It does weight more than a ton with guns and ammo ...give it gun shields and jerrycan ammo bins that's probably a half ton more 😳
But ...ohhhhh  :wacko:  :wacko:
Oh with the German style jerrycans mate you can get nearly 400rds of ammo in them ..in the US cans nearly 320 ..remember that the jerrycan are longer in lenght than a .50 ammo can and one trick is to take the rds which won't fit inside the jerrycan..ya just either hang em over the jerrycan or as I've seen ..pile on top..bit of Ductape to hold em in place ..when fighting starts  ..the loaders just rip the tape off then  ya good to go  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I just realised that I have a few lengths of 3D printed resin .50 cal ammo chutes in the stash (& I've just ordered some more) - so I can see some minor mod's coming to a couple of quad-50 turrets near me!  :wacko:

Well, the RAMs decided to keep them when the Army switched to F1s, preferring the old-school ruggedness to the lighter weight (so they remained in limited production into the mid-1980s).  ;)

If you really want to prove they are not dead you need to include todays paper in the pictures...

If you are worried about the quad 50 unbalancing the boat then put one at each end.   ;D

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

(1) Like every good Ransom Demand in history...

(2) Worked for the MGB equipped with Molins 6-pdrs... oh wait, that was in a Commando Comic... ah well...  ;D

Adding all of the firepower to a PBR.  I like it!  Only thing missing is a Stinger missile launcher and maybe an AT-4  ;D
