Yes, PBR 31 Mk.IIs.

There are two of them currently under construction simultaneously in the Wombat Boatyard. ;D

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about;

This is the kit:

The real thing:

If you've seen the movie "Apocalypse Now" half the film is based aboard a PBR 31 Mk.II.

They're going to, eventually, be joining my FSBR & SpORT boat (& the Patrol Air Cushion Vehicle (PACV*) now, too) in a Vietnam riverside diorama.

I may do one of them OoB, as a USN boat & crew on secondment to the RAMs.

The RAMs boat(s) will receive some minor modifications &, probably a different paint scheme.

[*: Surprisingly, the PACV isn't that much bigger than the PBR.]

I wanted one to be seconded to the 50th MSB when we were babysitting the Port Authority of NY & NJ infrastructure after 9/11.  I got some oddball looks from brigade staff

Looking forward to this.

I've got one in the stash.  I missed out on the Apocalypse Now resin figures so it might get desert camo and something big and stupid on the aft deck like a howitzer.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Careful you don't punch a hole in the bottom of the boat!

As a memory of an earlier age,  does anyone make an affordable fly or insect class river gunboat?    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly-class_gunboat   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect-class_gunboat

They seem to be much slower, but more heavily armed

Great choice for a build. This kit is a satisfying build and even out of the box, looks the goods.

Looking forward to your take on this in Aussie service and the tweaks you do.. up gunning of course

I refuse to either confirm or deny reports that 2 x Dynamo 1/35 Vietnam/WWII M55 Quad Machine Guns [2in1] (DY-35DM001) are en route to the Wombat Modelling Establishment, & if they are ...

... It's all YOUR fault, BT!

Now's me thinking a Burley Bucket was a Po, and it turns out to be a bait holder  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Considering the PBR's fishing boat origins, all appropriate additions

There could just be enough room for a Barbeque, too - oops, this isn't for the Bad Ideas GB...  ;D

Though a hotplate mounted directly over the engine would do the job - like the stakes welded to the Centurion exhaust mufflers in Vietnam; just wide enough apart to wedge in a C-ration can, so the cans were piping hot after a day's operation...

Slap a steak or two on the plate, latch the mesh cover over it and go play for the day; when the boat makes harbour for the night, the steaks are well done and still sizzling.

On one side ... & saturated with Mekong Delta river water on the other!

Splash guards - and someone detailed to turn them during a break in Playtime...
Or the Mk.2, where there is a plate over the top also, protecting the precious cargo from errant water and providing a reflective surface to cook both sides at once.
