That'd require some VERY low flying! Mind you, some air display Tiger Moths show that's very possible.....

There's lots of pics of Tigers doing just that, but it seems they've all ben stolen by those image thieves at Alamy or Pinterest.  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I'm pretty sure a Focke-Wulf Stieglitz could have done it in 1944.

Something Kriegsmarine but with a Bismarck turret?  :o
Surprisingly, Drachinifel did his Rum Ration this past week on HMS X.1, which, other than the diesels, was actually a decent cruiser submarine.

I was thinking more along the lines of the 6" gun mounting, which IIRC, may have been the cause of the sub's demise; the theory being it got clipped by a surface vessel and the gun and mounting ripped away - a massive cavity into the interior of the sub for water ingress...  :banghead:
So it's probably not the X.1 then... Goggle-Fu failed me there...

Yup, that's the one - thanks.

Nothing could be as bad as the K-class steam subs - of course the M-class were K class keels

One of the guys in my model boat club has built an RC version of that. It's about 3ft diameter and it's the very devil to figure out which way it's going when he's sailing it!  :o

Yup, the Kalamity-class of non-nuclear steam turbine subs were brought up on page 10

So they built a bad idea and then built another even bigger one? Makes me wonder who this designer knew and was pals with.

There's a 1/200 scale plastic kit of the Novgorod by Chuanyu too. It's designed for RC use apparently.

Quote from: perttime on February 25, 2025, 06:31:35 AMHow do you like the idea of defending Britain against Nazi invasion by hanging blades under Tiger Moths? The blade would be used against parachutes, and even paratroops who had already landed.

There were also plans for low flying trainers to fly over the invasion beaches spraying mustard gas. If the invasion had occurred all the rules of war were off.

Anyway I've been having thoughts about a British early war period SPG. Take a Matilda (or similar hull) and mount a 60pdr BLR or similar on it ? Now some of these ex WWI era medium guns had very ineffective or even no recoil systems and relied on ramps behind the wheels. No idea what would happen if you fired it from a tank chasis ?

As an aside it was the effectiveness or otherwise of these ramps that led to a certain Gunner Milligan meeting Gunner Secombe....."has anyone seen our gun"  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The Russian Navy has had a long and proud (?) history of bad ideas, bad leadership and incompetence that rises to the level of art.

Gunner from the 7.2" unit, walking down the hill with a lantern: "Blessed be those that have seen a seven-point-two..."
Voice from the darkness: "What colour was it?"

My understanding is that gunner Milligan didn't meet gunner Seacombe on that occasion, they just found out later that they were in the two units involved.

Their attempt to sail large elements of the Baltic fleets around to the far east in 1905 was art, in the same way that a Laurel & Hardy film was art:

It seems some of that incompetence still exists today judging by their performance in the Black Sea.
