Quote from: zenrat on July 20, 2025, 05:59:01 AMSo now that's sorted, what's the Stolly kit like?

Just for you, Fred, I've removed one of the kits from its protective plastic bags.

1st up: The clear parts look fantastic! The clearest, smoothest plastic parts I can recall ever seeing. The wipers are moulded into the front windscreens, so a bit of care will be needed there. Weirdly the mesh over the exhausts is moulded as three clear parts - I can see where they were coming from but I'll probably use some PE mesh instead, but I won't make a definitive call on that until I begin the build sometime in the nebulous future.

2nd up: The plastic seems quite soft, but I haven't tried cutting it, yet, so don't quote me on it! It's also a bit greasy & I noticed some mould-release spots still liquid on the parts, so a thorough wash will be in order. Three parts had come off the sprues but they were all easily identifiable even before looking through the instructions to find the part numbers (C58, C59 & E12 = both water jets & a radio). Some detail looks a little soft, but nothing that will really scream out at you. There is (as there should be) zero flash but mould lines are present on most parts, however they're very minimal & should only take a quick swipe with a scraper/blade to remove.

3rd up: Without have tried to use them to put anything together, the instructions appear to be quite clear & easy to follow in the current Airfix style, with options call-outs for the three supplied-markings variants. The drive train looks to be the most complicated part of the build but, given the subject, I'm not surprised. Glazing is one of the last steps, as most of these parts are fitted externally.

Over all: Looks good in the box. Hopefully it goes together well, too.

Thanks mate.

Hehehehe, quite so, there's a lot of flash on the sprues so I'm expecting some fit issues. But then we're Whiffers, and that's meat and veg for us of course.  ;D

In which case the blue plastic will help.   ;D

Why not? Red, green or blue?

If it's painted at Thomas it HAS to blue, but his face is white, with added eyes and grin.....................

James and Henry are worth a look in. Hence my reference to colours.

According to Fantastic Plastic's build, it's supposed to be a sort of French blue:

I decided i needed to cheer myself up and see if i can find some deals on trademe .
Since im in here now its pretty easy to guess that deals were found  ;D
So now i have two more goodies to add to the stash ...i scored these two ..
Kitty Hawk | No. KH80135  XF5U-1 "Flying Flapjack" | 1:48
And this monster ..
Trumpeter | No. 00378 German Geschutzwagen Tiger fur 17cm Kanone 72 (Sf)  | 1:35
Its been a good day gents
Now i've got to hunt down 2 sets of Tamiya king Tiger track sets as the tracks that thing comes one are rubber band type and total crap .

Didn't think I'd see a Flapjack in 1/48... there again, it's added to the long list of such things that are now available...

Phill, haven't you just converted one of those? There again, a 'big-donkey' German chassis is always of use...  ;D

When i saw the flapjack in 48th and its the one i like too it was only a matter of time before i would convince myself i wanted that ...as you might have guessed ,,that didnt take to long at all ,,,and yep ,,i'm going to modify it too  ;)
As for the monster ,,,not this one matey ,,i took a standard King Tiger and played with that ...this thing has a few more road wheels pur side and much longer tracks ,,it was a stupid idea all in all ,,take a 170mm gun ,,take it to its firing position,,drop it off ,,and drive away so it can do that bang bang thing and then pick it up ,,,not a single thought about counter battery fire or  Allied air power crossed their minds i think  :banghead:

That looks a lot better blue than the one it's moulded in for sure!

It's quite a clever kit, and it all comes apart into various sections, all of which are 'stand alones' in their own right.
