Quote from: seadude on November 08, 2025, 02:53:12 PMWon a 1/35 scale Gun Truck model in my local model club's raffle that we had today during our club meeting.
But.........since I don't build WWII armor, it'll just sit on my shelf until next year when I donate it for the model club auction.
Pic below.

FYI, That's a Vietnam-era truck; used to escort the supply convoys along various routes.
I recall watching something a couple of years ago about a bunch of Vietnam Vets who built an homage to the truck they used to do the supply runs in. As I recall they were saying that all the trucks were completely unofficial, built from whatever weaponry they could beg, steal or borrow. Including Miniguns and so on.
Been a fan of Vietnam War gun trucks for yrs ..so many verities of weapons and armour .
Ya could be thinking of Ace of Spades or Eve of destruction..there both pretty famous trucks ..I think Puff the magic dragon and Brutus are amongst them too .
Those gun trucks have been big inspirations for my gun truck builds for years  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

Another airliner for The Stash, even though I already have a whiffy idea for it (fictional airline): a Revell 1:144 Airbus A320.  <_<

Nick

I left SMW with happy memories, very sore feet, several kits sold, and these items:

Airfix Shannon class Lifeboat
Airfix F-35B
Emhar F3H Demon

Blackbird Models decal sheet for Argentine Avros.

Tamiya Extra Thin glue

NARSES2

Got home from Telford late Monday afternoon with 4 new kits for the stash, which is basically the maximum i Can carry home with me on the train.

All 1/72 :-

Special Hobby Vautour IIA and masking set. I've always wanted to build this as a RAF low level strike aircraft.

Azur/Fromm Martin Type 166 in Dutch service. Either one of the options in the box or do it on the basis that a couple escaped from the Dutch East Indies to Australia ? Talking to the guy on the SH stand and apparently the masking set will be available from this week, and if ever a kit needed a masking set

IBG Spitfire PR Type A/B/E. Looks superb, and yes mine was the boxing that took some time to get it back under restraint.

Eduard Overtrees boxing of the Spitfire Mk IXc - early version - why ? because it was £6
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

This year's Telford Haul

I was restrained and focussed.  I had several key items to get and all of those were obtained where possible.

The Mosquito haul.  I've assembled and painted much of the Tamiya kits ones stash, so this was a key target.
3 x Tamiya Mosquito B/PR.IV - Hannants still had one left on the Sunday (I'd seen it on the Saturday morning and resisted then ), but I'd run out of cash monies by that point and I have a good number in the stash anyway.
4 x Tamiya Mosquito NF.II/FB.VI - these were what I was mainly after, as I'd run the stash down to zero.
4 x Airfix Mosquito B.XVIs - courtesy of Hannants flogging them at 40% off. I can live with the TT errors, as a modicum of modelling skill can fix them.
2 x Airfix B.XVI/B.35/TT.35s - I mainly wanted the decals, but the new bits will be handy.  There's a few TT.35s I'd like to do -  VP191 with the dayglo stripes and TA634 still in the TT markings but without the TT gear being top of the list.

Whilst I was buying Mosquito stuff, a trip to see Colin at Freightdog yielded a B.XVI H2S conversion (I have one ready to decal as AZ-A of 627 Sqn), a B.35 upgrade set, a B.XVI/35 canopy set and a PR.34 conversion (again, I already have one ready to decal).  One of the second hand traders had an Eagle Strike sheet that I'm not sure if I already have, but bought anyway on the grounds that even if I do have it, spare sheets are always handy.  The last Mosquito acquisition was a BFO cannon conversion from Blackbird.  My recently finished 489 sqn example was on the SIG stand.

An Aeroscale Martin Baker MB4 - One of the key buys.  I already have several Magna MB3s tucked away (3, I think, but at least two unstarted), so refrained from buying those. He'd run out of the 72nd Miles M.52 on the Sunday when I went for it, so I bought the second Mosquito TT35 as a consolation.

1 IBG Spitfire PR.1A - I have a huge number of Spitfires in the stash (guestimated at well over 300 and likely much higher), I really, really, REALLY do not need any more, plus I object to paying over £20 for a single seat single engined fighter in injection, so I'd said that I'd only get one if it was twenty notes or less.  Jadlam obliged, albeit the twenty notes (I did briefly glance inside the Black Boxing IBG Spitfire mk Ia but they had those for £48, so outside my self imposed fiscal straitjacket).  Having said that and having looked through the box at the vast amount of spares, it could well be worth the money - if those spares were aftermarket resin or vac,  the price would certainly rise very steeply.  Although the forthcoming Eduard kits will presumably have similar excessive spares and a good tenner cheaper.  I may shell out for a second at some point, if I can get one or the imminent PR.1C for a similar price if only to use the spares and decals on an Airfix kit.  I have plenty of recce conversion bits as it is, many the superb Airkit examples gifted by Colin some years back.  I shall reserve judgement until the Bolton show in January.

A Classic Plane Junkers EF131.
This is a variant of the production version of the Junkers Ju 287, but with the triple pack engines.  I'd already refrained from buying a Huma Ju 287 V-1 on the grounds that if I cared about the type that much, I'd have finished the one I already had, rather than let it gather dust, half-built and unloved, in a cold loft.  Similar reasoning was used with the Special Hobby DH Moth Minor - I've had a Dujin one for over twenty years and if I was that interested in it, I would have built it already.  Ditto for the High Planes one.  I have two, I do not need any more right now and the money could be better spent on Mosquitoes, which I AM building. If they'd had the forthcoming Coupe version with the canopy, I'd have snapped their arms off for a pair.
But, I digress.  The EF131 is quite nice, even if it does bear a striking resemblance to the Planet kit, which itself used a Huma Ju 287 as a master.  Bit pricey at £40, but I've only ever seen one, I don't know what it would cost from the manufacturer (even if he is still in business, of which I am unsure) and the postage costs from Germany could be quite steep.  Captured markings for it, 'natch, but it's a long term project for when I kick the Mosquito habit.

A Unicraft Fw 250.  Yes, I know, Unicraft.  But I've long wanted a kit of this type and it was very cheap.  Whoever had started it had done a very cackhanded job (as if you could possibly make building a Unicraft kit any worse...) as it's smeared with a great deal of superglue.  My usual comments about Igor's shockingly dreadful quality casting apply. If I get sick of it, I know an insane masochist with a Unicraft fetish who could well take it off my hands for what I paid for it.  He already has the aforementioned EF131 that I've seen.

2 RS Resins Reggiane RE.2006.  Why two?  They were 6 quid each, and there are differences.  I can't tell what they are, but it's a nice looking aircraft anyway.  Part of me is convinced I have one anyway.  I know I have some late Italian fighters tucked away, so a trip to the loft is required.  I need to put these away as it is.

1 Eduard Bf 109 G-5/6/14 Late - I've wanted to replace the half finished Hasegawa one that was going to end up as a Czech one and all of my Bf 109s are going to use the Eduard ones as a basis for consistency reasons.  This was one of the inexpensive overtrees.

1 Planet Blohm und Voss P.193.  I have one to finish and wanted a second to do as a night fighter with wing mounted aerials.  Mikro Mir have one imminent, but that's likely to be upwards of £30 and Models for Sale had this for £15.  You do the maths and a bird in the hand is worth more than throwing pots and kettles around the glass house.

Picked up a few little bits and bobs elsewhere, this being a pair of Aeroclub Spitfire props (Merlin and Griffon) and the trader was incredulous that I'd given him twice the asking price.  I was happy with them being a bargain at that price, given the rocking horse turds that are Aeroclub Spitfire props these days.

Oh, and there was a Dekno CASA 2.111 conversion I picked up on the Models for Sale stand after a tip off from Weaver.  The resin Merlin engines may have looked like boiled sweets (more orange Chewits or Opal Fruits TBH), but the decal sheet that came with it was pure gold, with six options on it, including a search and rescue one I've long wanted to do and a VIP transport version with a fetching cheatline.  That set me back an exorbitant £3, but I'd have happily paid four times that just for the decals.

Final acquisition was a BAC project, 3d printed, which I think came courtesy of TsrJoe.  May have it ready for Bolton. I have already applied some filler...

Oh, I forgot to add some wide Tamiya tape as I just finished my last roll masking 30+ Mosquitoes, a tube of Revell Plasto filler and I cleared one of the traders of as many of the RAF Xtracrylix paints he had that I knew I'd need, mainly Medium Sea Grey, PRU Blue and Ocean Grey.

Then I get back to find that I'd won the pair of Tamiya Mosquitoes that I'd been bidding on on eBay. Which was nice.

If that was me then I have absolutely no memory of it - somebody else maybe?

On which subject, I spent a few minutes chatting with Paul Lucas on the SAM stand, and I mentioned I'd been a fan of his work since he did all that lovely Airkit stuff. He said 'Do people still use them then?' and I assured him I knew at least two of us who did.  ;D

He looked a bit gone out at that, but they are superb!

The Wooksta!

I've been a solid fan of his efforts since the Airkit Spitfire F21 I got back in 1990.  What a dream to build that was.

At my club meeting last Saturday one of the members insisted I take a Hobby Boss LVTP-7 "Tuna Boat" home with me. He didn't want anything for it either! He said he already had two in the stash so he thought he would like to see what I do with it. So I immediately thought of mounting a LAV-25, Bradley or Stryker turret on it. If I get a LAV to combine with the Swedish S-tank I would have a spare turret. Perfect. Or go all sci fi shuttle craft sort of thing.

Ah right, that makes sense. I wouldn't have noticed a CASA 2.111 part as particularly interesting, that's what confused me.

It'd work for the next GB.
They can operate on land, at sea, and here's one trying to fly...   ;)

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.
