Gondor

Quote from: Gondor on November 08, 2025, 10:42:52 AMI bought lots of kits at SMW today. I also collected two kits from Jadlam. I intend to buy at least one more kit tomorrow. Now, as to what I bought, age and the fact that the items are in the boot of the car preclude me from listing what everything was. I shall do so once I get home on Monday.

After being complained at during dinner for my previous comment, and to make packing the car easier at the end of the show tomorrow. I have ventured into the car park and retrieved my purchases from today.

Picked up from Jadlam, so not strictly a purchase.

Eastern Express 1/72nd Kamov Ka-15M
Eastern Express 1/72nd Kamov Ka-18
ICM 1/72nd Fw 189C/V-6 (the ground attack version with the tiny armoured cockpit pod. Not 100% sure, but there might be a full greenhouse pod in the box too! There's certainly all the glazings for it)
Pegasus 1/? scale "Apollo 27" Rocket
Cozmic Models 1/72nd Colonial Landram Assault Version (resin)
Incomplete Airfix 1/72nd McDonnell Banshee (for £3 - to go with all my other incomplete Banshees!)

Airkit Enterprise 1/72nd Jaguar GR 1 recce pod

Partial decal sheet for a Meng 1/72nd Mansyu Ki-98 (the twin-boom pusher). Bit of a story to this one. The whole box was on a trader's stand at £20. However when I opened it, there was almost nothing of the kit left: just a few bits of undercarriage and the non-Japanese bits of the decal sheet! I pointed this out to the trader and offered him £3 for it, which he took. Why? Because the remains of the decal sheet has Manchukuo (Japanese China) and Royal Thai Air Force (white elephant on red rectangle) markings, neither of which are exactly thick on the ground. Interestingly, this was the second kit like that which I found on his stall!

The other was a V9 (piloted V2) with just the launch stand left. Today's lesson? ALWAYS OPEN THE BOXES.

Won a 1/35 scale Gun Truck model in my local model club's raffle that we had today during our club meeting.
But.........since I don't build WWII armor, it'll just sit on my shelf until next year when I donate it for the model club auction.
Pic below.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

FYI, That's a Vietnam-era truck; used to escort the supply convoys along various routes.

I recall watching something a couple of years ago about a bunch of Vietnam Vets who built an homage to the truck they used to do the supply runs in. As I recall they were saying that all the trucks were completely unofficial, built from whatever weaponry they could beg, steal or borrow. Including Miniguns and so on.

I got an IBG Spitfire PR 1 kit at Telford.

It's one that has SO many parts you can't them all back in the box after you've taken them out to oggle them! Ok, it's expensive for a 1/72 scale kit, but it just mabe the best 1/72 scale Spitfir4e kit EVER, so far!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

be aware folks Kit is not exaggerating here,  <_<   i watched a fellow WHIFer open one of the boxes behind the table, wile i was not showered in scattered parts,   the box lid would not sit back on fully,  and that was before the sprues inside were examined outside the box,  once that fateful step had been taken, ....   :o

I can testify as to the accuracy of the story as I saw it happened. It was a total surprise. But in retrospect quite amusing.

I spoke to one of the guys at the Armoury/Dora Wings stand and he said he'd insisted on the parts being included on their kits so that people couldn't complain about stuff being missing. Better to have it there and the builder choosing not to use it than not include it and get vilified for it. I said to him about Airfix doing similar and stating what doesn't need to be included (Thinking of the Wellington here) and he seemed to take that on board.

Incidentally, their MiG-3s and Dragon Rapide look fantastic

It was incredibly depressing to see supply guys having to do all the same things 30+ years later in Iraq. Hillbilly armour, improvised weapon mounts, some even took direct inspiration from the Vietnam gun trucks their fathers drove. Reminded me of the cartoon showing a waste paper basket labelled, "LESSONS LEARNED"... :-\
