Quote from: Pellson on August 03, 2025, 01:03:56 PMCaught a Hasegawa Draken off Evilbay for ca £13! Unreasonably cheap given it's the best Draken kit out there by far and away. And even more puzzling as I witnessed a fairly recent casting of the venerable and rather awful Airfix J35F Draken go for well over £25 just half an hour later.
The world is weird..

Speaking about awful Draken kits, I also bought this ancient Lindberg 1/48 kit.

While being at best Draken-like-ish, my plan is not to build another Draken, but rather to make an attempt att realising this fictional SAAB A36 in plastic. Or something inspired by it, at least.

Just by eyeballing it, I think a doublesized Draken is a good start, and then adding a couple of old Airfix Viggen prototypes as we go along. Already having the Viggens (for spare parts), an 1/48 Draken kit was what was needed, and preferably not a too good one. Mission accomplished.

Sadly, it might not arrive until next week, but once it does, I'm already a bit triggered.

Thanks, I had found them and made an order, but a UK distributer would be far better as the postage costs.

You're right about the 1/48th Draken, but what also strikes me is that the old Monogram 1/121st scale B-58 Hustler (the one with the push-button bomb-release) might be a good parts donor too. I've just offered one up against a 1/72nd Draken and the fuselage looks perfect for this project: similar width but about 30% longer. The wing lacks wing-root air intakes just like the artwork too. Using one of those would also give you the nice bonus of leaving four spare engine pods, which are useful for all sorts of things (Gerry Anderson models used then extensively).

From ebay:

Hasegawa 1/24th scale Lancia Stratos HF "1977 Monte-Carlo Rally Winner"

Wanted a cheap one of these for ages and finally got this at a reasonable(ish) price because the green+red Alitalia decals are all degraded and cracked.

Doesn't matter to me of course, since I have something entirely different in mind for it, Cobber...

Gosh, what a surprise!   I will be fascinated to see what you do with it............a Lancia Cirrus or possibly Cumulo-Nimbus, perhaps.
