The only 1/72 kit i know of is the
Omega models full resin kit and while it is a space saver, it's not a money saver... Although i also think that the price seems to be too high, it is a full resin kit so i guess it's normal.

According to Wikipedia, only nine different serial numbers have ever been seen. Since Iran has a large stock of unflyable F-5s, the suspicion is that the Saeqeh's are actually re-build US airframes rather than true Iranian production.

Resin..... expensive....... I'll pass.  I'll live vicariously through your build.  ;D

What I wonder about this thing are the hard data. What, exactly, are the benefits of the additional stab, and with them being canted? Are they just "playing around" or is this design somehow -actually- superior to the original configuration? Doesn't seem all too likely that Northrop would have "missed it" on the way to making the Tigershark, especially considering the mindframe on the YF-17; it's not like twin canted fins weren't on their mind already.

Maybe twin canted fins were considered and rejected to a perceived conservatism on the part of potential buyers?

That was the one caveat I had in my mind; strict adherence to "light and cheap." I still wonder if the idea even came up, considering. The Tigershark was already breaking a few of the standards applied to the original and one can't help but wonder if they tinkered a bit with the overall design while they focused on cramming that engine in there.

I mean.... at one point they even glued some wings onto it backward so who knows?  ;D ;D ;D

I believe Fred may be right cause Northrop was probably thinking of keeping it as cheap and simple as possible.
I guess it's something that could've been on their minds but maybe it wasn't worth it at the time.

Oh, i've got a couple of 1/72 F-5 kits in the stash so i can steal one's tail to make this bird in that scale.  ;)

The Omega kit is here: https://omega-models.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=85&search=Saeq

Ain't the most expensive but i really prefer working with plastic, resin and CA glue aren't my favorite materials for modelling.

Looks like they not only pinched the 'design' from Northrop but also nicked the colour scheme from the Blue Angels.............. ;)
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It's almost like they have a large stock of F-5E components that they can't do anything else with isn't?

Twin tails are only really of benefit if there's a wide fuselage in front of them, and only work properly if there's a decent separation between them. The YF-17/F-18 is about the narrowest fuselage on which it shows any advantage, even there they have to be canted outboard, and they then had a problem with LERX vortices battering the outside face of the fins and causing stress damage. You could make a case that the F-18 would be better off with an F-16-style single fin, and use LERX vortices and ventral fins to get high AoA stability, but then that fin would be significantly taller than on an F-16 (F-18 is longer and heavier), and that might cause problems with hanger clearance on carriers (the F-16 is nearly as tall as an F-4 already).

If you want a charitable interpretation of the Saeqeh project, then it was probably the best experience-building exercise that Iran could generate for it's up-and-coming aerospace engineers, given the limited resources available to them.

They're probably building a big red suspension bridge right now, just so they can fly under it....

Ahahah
me and Milady were noticing the same thing last night. As the Iranians are good friends with the US, i'd say it was a tribute...

Ebay says I've won another Hastings - this time the Aircraft in Miniature re-pop of the Formaplane kit, which comes with etch, white metal, decals and resin engines.  I have enough Hastings now.
