I really like the sound of "HMS Battleaxe."   Just sounds like she means business.

Would the MGM-51 Shillelagh anti-tank missile, named for an Irish club, fit in the discussion at this juncture?

Today arrived  my new airfix  Buccaneer,  its nice  don't  get me  wrong  but , my whelmed is a bit below par with it. Weaver  mentioned the  pylons  being  moulded onto the  rocket pods and this to me is very  amateur of Airfix,  it really is. Sorry  Airfix  but I want to decide what to  put on those  pylons.  The rocket pods  might  be salvagable, we shall see. Aftermarket  replacement  pylons  anyone? Perhaps  Colin  could  make some.

I don't think those are swords, though?  ;D  Scimitars, Cutlasses, and Sabres are swords but I've never heard of a Harrier sword!

EDIT: Oh wait, I get it... SWORD........ model kits! ha!!  ;D ;D   That flew right over me head...  I only have one of those, a 1/48 T-38 Talon. I've been searching for the the same in 1/72 for a couple years now....   :banghead:

I can't think of any more aircraft but there was the Rapier SAM and Suzuki Katana motorcycle (kitted in 1/12 by Tamiya).

Well that's good, then, because that leaves them open for whif-names. I like Rapier in particular.

Add to the stuff you mentioned,we have the Claymore land mines...  "face toward enemy!"

The cancelled North American XF-108 was going to be called Rapier.

I always thought those instructions on Claymores should read:

FACE TOWARDS ENEMY
NO, NOT YOU - THE MINE!
Neophyte: Is Eris true?
Malaclypse the Younger: Everything is true.
Neo: Even false things?
MtY: Even false things are true.
Neo: How can that be?
MtY: I don't know man, I didn't do it.

Had a couple of boxes of the Robogear building bits arrive yesterday, from the estate of a friend. (ok, maybe more than a couple...  :o)

I'm already thinking of making a sort-of-Hadley's Hope for my Denizen Miniatures close-enough-to-Colonial Marines.

Then I'll have to scratch an APC, but I've been meaning to do that any decade, now.

Yesterday's purchases...

1/72 Airfix Buccaneer S2C (real world but with very old Modeldecal markings. Some of the supplied decals though are being used on a whiff)

1/35 Dragon Saracen armoured car. Second time around this one, but I am tempted to swap the turret for a Scimitar or Scorpion CVRT type one.

Righto, SAPMA Expo stash additions:

Day 1 purchases:

1 x Monogram 1/48 Helldiver SB2C - rivet monster got let loose on this one molded in dark blue plastic & with raised panel lines
1 x Tamiya 1/48 Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI - to cover the replacement for the lost canopy top which I took from my other Mk VI, which will be "repurposed". ;)
2 x Hornet 1/35 heads with rimless UK (Para) helmets - these are for WW2 RAM's as they are better than the rimmed helmet for assault landing purposes (no rim to injure the bloke next to you in a big Pacific swell)
1 x Callsign Models 1/35 Aust. Armour Commander
1 x Callsign Models 1/35 Aust. Heads Vietnam Bush Hats
1 x Callsign Models 1/35 Arms with rolled up sleeves
1 x Callsign Models 1/35 Owen Gun (Solid Stock)
1 x Callsign Models 1/35 Owen Gun (Light Butt)
1 x Callsign Models 1/35 Owen Gun (Metal Stock)
1 x Firestorm 1/35 SLR Rifles - Tut! Tut! L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle, fellas!
1 x Firestorm 1/35 Slouch Hats (no band)
2 x 250ml Tamiya Acrylic Thinner
1 x 1 fl oz Micro Sol
1 x 1 fl oz Micro Set

Day 2 purchases:

1 x Pro Modeler 1/48 SB2C-4 Helldiver - newer moulding, in light/medium grey, with fewer rivets & recessed panel lines; includes additional resin parts for wing fold & control surfaces which combined would have cost more than I paid for the kit!
1 x AFV Club 1/35 Centurion Mk.3 Korean War - will be built as early post-war Australian Army but before we actually got them, as ours were redirected to British forces in Korea in 1950/51, mine will be even earlier, probably be ca. 1947/48
1 x tube Perfect Plastic Putty - well, I've hear you lads sing its praises, thought I'd give it a go
1 x Master Tools Model Chisel (diamond-shaped V-cut blade, 2.8mm) - for those raised panel line moments ... maybe

Nice additions.

Is that Monogram Helldiver the one with working parts ? Folding wings and a bomb that you can actually drop ?

The PPP is very good for some things and not so good for others, but you'll soon discover that for yourself

Looking at the instructions it looks like that's a "Yes", mostly. The instructions show folding wings, position-able landing gear & the bomb bay can be either open or closed, if open the bomb can swing down on the trapeze but not be "dropped" as such.

Honestly, having bought the newer, better version*, I'm not sure what to do with this one. :-\

Although the idea of building it as best I can straight OoB & putting it in the comp, next year is very tempting.

The older (Monogram) boxing looks to be  from 1983 (as per box copyright) & the Pro-Modeler (Revell-Monogram) from 1997.

*: It really is, with much better mouldings, highly detailed interior, PE (for the seat belts, dive flaps, actuator arms & engine wiring) & detailed instructions, including reference photo's) with fixed wings (they won't be once I used the resin wing-fold set ;)) but also the option for 1 x 1,000lb bomb or 2 x 500lb bombs, & even FS numbers for the paint colours. The only real negative is the Cal .30's, which I can replace with a couple of GasPatch guns, anyway.

Build it and play with it  ;D I used to get these big old Monogram kits as birthday or Christmas presents back in the early 60's and they were great fun. I say big, because back then I was only used to 1/72
