The new Tornado model has arrived, so I now have spare parts to fix the issue.



While this is a identical kit, the intructions are conpletly new in the "new" Revell style. So I guess this kit will be used for another What-If one day.

Wit the new parts, the problem could be fixed



So now I can continue with the Tornado.

Slowly, multliple parts come together as they have been painted. One final color is missing, then the final assembly can begin.

Somehow, I do not have luck with this one. When starting ot assemble the fuselage parts, again things broke.
So no chance to make them movable now, have to see how this can be fixed.
Motivation for this model now dereases a bit.

Yes, those tailplane pivots are nowhere near strong enough. I had exactly the same happen to my Tonka F6.

Revell try TOO hard for their bits and pieces to be 'scale', with the result that they're not strong enough for the real world loads on plastic models. Their landing gear axles are particularly prone to that sort of failure.

@PR19_Kit : Now the second tailplane has broken off and I have no ide when and where this happend. I remember that I had build a Revell Tornado kit a long time ago, but I cannot remember that I had so much isseus with it. Maybe it was a different kit? Who knows.

So, my motivation for this model is now decreasing a lot.

Anyway, some progress, the fuselage parts are put together, had to use some putty to make things ok.



I guess, I wait until I will add the tailplanes again.

I used some plastic rod about the same thickness as the tailplanes and glued it into slots in the tailplane before drilling a hole of the rod's diameter right through the fuselage to glue on the other half. The tailplane won't pivot now, but it's a LOT stronger.

The tailplane construction on this kit is horrible. Losses are typical, don't worry.

Seems as if many components of this kit are well-intentioned but poorly executed. Have to see how I fix it, but later.

While the model first looked quite nice, you now see that it does not really fit togther so good. A bit frustrating. But at least some progress.



From what you wrote here, the landing gear could be a challange again. So lets see...

You've built the little known 'Active Control Tornado' there, the one without any tailplanes and controlled entirely by the pilot's thought processes.   

It's crying out for a Raspberry Ripple scheme with a big 'ACT' logo on the nose.

Well, the plan is - of course - to add the tailplanes. But I will do so on a later stage of contruction, I simply fear that they will break again when I add them now.

@Captain Canada : as I grew up not too far from a Luftwaffe airbase, it was a common sight in the 1980s and 1990s to see (and hear) them in the air almost daily

I think SAC Conversions do a white metal landing gear for the Tornado.
