NöNöBärs's What-If Flugwerft (WIP: Ukranian Panavia Tornado)

All parts added (engines not glued yet) and the Mōko is now ready to be painted.




After adding the first color - the small test model show how this should look like later (more or less)

The second camo color added. Two more to go. Again, the little protoype should give an idea how this will look like when done.

Most of the paint job is done and removing the masking, only a few spots need to be corrected.



Now I can continue to add all the smaller things like engines, payload, wheels and so on.

The Mōko is now standing on its own wheels. Time to all add the smaller parts like landing gear cover, payload and of course the engines.

The Boeing/Kawasaki Type 85 is now ready to get its decals. The engines are just plunged in right now, so I can remove them for better handing of adding the decals.
Payload is also missing, this will be added later.

After the Type 85 has been completed, the workbench has some space to start a new aircraft.

This time it will be a Panavia Tornado IDS. With an classified operator, so different paint job and some modified weapons.

The model to start with is the Revell 1/72 Lufwaffe ECR "Tiger Meet". Will not use the "Tiger Meet" camo and this kit also contains the parts for the IDS version.



This is in the box, more parts than on the previous model.

Main work is now on the cockpit, but I also prepare a few other things.

While I wait until some colors are delivered, the cockput is now installed in the hull:

While the construction of the "bigger" parts of the Tornato is currently locked, I started to build the weapons.

While the AIM9 Sidewinder are taken from the kit, the two Taurus cruise missles are 3D printed and currently in the process of being painted.

Sometimes, real eventy take over What-Ifs, so I guess I have to hurry up with this one. Or alter the planned backstory.

Got the required colors, so painting can start now.

As usual, I pinted a small rough test model to see if the color scheme "works"



Beginning with the first color now

A problem. A big one.

The Tornado has movable wings. So the payload pylons can move as well. At one of them, the pin to fasten it into the wing broke. Despite many attempts, I could not fix this.



So what to do? At the end, I ordered another of those kits to get a replacemnt part

you cold try  a steady hand, drill out a hole where the peg was and use a pin or a bit of soft wire put through into the interior of the wing and bent over to hold it .

At one of them, the pin to fasten it into the wing broke.

Yeah, they all do that, I've yet to see a Revell/Italeri Tornado kit with a complete set of moving pylons. 

I filled the holes in the wings of my F6 with styrene rod, and when it was well set I drilled a 0.9 mm hole right through the centre of it. Then glued a short piece of 1 mm wire into the pylon where the peg was. Then the pylon will plug in and out and hopefully won't fall out. If it does I plan to drill a larger hole and fit a larger dia. wire peg...........

I tried a few things, and in the end, I ordered another Tornado kit. In the end, sometihng to make another What-If from. Have ot see what ideas I will have.
