Or when camping.  There's nothing quite as refreshing as a Rolling Rock in the fresh air at seven in the morning while you're waiting for the coffee to brew.

Well you're an honourary beer drinker, because they're really beers that have taken one extra step.

Went to the South Downs show yesterday. Cracking show   well done to all involved in its staging

However that's not the point of this post. When I arrived at Worthing Station, circa 10:15, I was greeted by 3 policeman on the platform and tow copper's van's outside. Slightly suprised by this I asked Dave (Kitbasher) who's a resident of the area at the show if there was any reason. Apparently it was a National League South (6th teir of the Football League) game between Worthing and Ebbsfleet. Last game of the season and they'd ended up as one and two in the League. Top team goes up, second into the play offs. When I returned home via the pub it was still full off victorious Worthing supporters who's won and been promoted.

Now that's why Football is the greatest game in the world when it can inspire such support at such a relatively lower level

Co-incidently in the National League (tier 5) yesterday Rochdale played York, last game of the season again. Guess who wete top and second ? That's right York top, Rochdale second. Both over a 100 points. Rochdale were at home and needed to win, York needed a draw. Rochdale went 1-0 up in the 3rd minute of added time, they're going up, York equalised in the 12th minute of added time with a scrambled goal, all 22 players in the Rochdale box, and go up. The highs and lows of the game in 9 minutes. But there's always next year as my dad used to say to me when we were at Palace  ;)

Non-League footy far better than Premiership, etc.  it's an honest game.

Incidentally, the show venue acted like a huge Faraday cage so I was getting Worthing match updates from my text/SMS from my brother-in-law.

To be honest, most leagues are better than the premiership nowadays. No VAR stopping goal celebrations or offsides by the mm of someone's nose. A lot less prima donnas falling over like they've been shot at the slightest pressure. Less predictability over who's going to win the league as they have the biggest bank balance.

I'll stop now.

The concept of divisions like soccer has in the UK is something that would never work here in North America. Not becuase the idea is bad, but it's simply geographic. In the UK you can hop a train or take buses and get from Lands End to John O' Groats, and all points in between, with minimal money and bother. Therefore fans of small market teams can still turn out for away games, and healthy rivalries can be built. But our vast land mass means that trying to set up a similar system just wouldn't work. It's also why you can have a big model show somewhere almost every week, while we have smaller local shows that nobody outside the area knows about. I've often thought that our sports leagues, like the NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB, could have a system such as yours, with their 'farm systems' treated as lower divisions, but it just couldn't work due to geography.

Little bit of work done on the Ki-98 and I've started to get the transfers on the Spitfire

Regarding the Spitfire. I've made an executive decision re the stencils. I'm not going to bother with those on the upper surfaces as because of the scheme you won't see them anyway, and I'll only use a few on the lowere surfaces. Having said that they are perfectly legible, so well done whoever produces AZ/KP's transfers

Progress

I've got to the point with the Ki-98 that I now need to decide on scheme. I'll probably go with whats in the box with the exception of IJA Grey undersides rather than natural metal. The fit of this kit still continues to astound me

The Spitfire has had all her transfers applied and we are now down to "fiddly" bits. Completion ? Next week, hopefully.

The Fw 187 has now had the first coat of her upper surface scheme applied.

I've also dug my second planned GB builds out. However I'm away a lot of June, so not sure if I'll finnish it in time. Still, we shall see.

I keep telling you we're even nicer than we look, even if you would deem that unlikely since we're all so unfathomably handsome..  ;)

Nice and steady progress there, by the way, dear blog owner.
