Quote from: zenrat on August 26, 2025, 05:53:37 AMAs a matter of interest, how many people here have a cheque book?

I got a "new" one when I opened my current bank account on the day I retired 18 years ago. Just looked and I've used 5 since then. The last 4 years ago and it was a charitable donation.
I do...and the last check (cheque) I wrote was in early 2022 was for rent.  And that was all I used it for.

I just looked at my checks - they're at least 25 years old since they have the address I lived in at the time. Still have 15-20 checks to go!

We seem to go through a cheque book every four years.  Mainly charitable  donations, birthday presents and paying for logs for our woodburner.

I've still got a checque book, but it's ages old now. My garage man doesn't take cards, so it's just used for servicing my cars.

Our (Aussie-owned) NZ Banks decided on our behalf that "The Public doesn't want cheques anymore", so they've been superseded by EFTPOS (which is apparently also on its' way out, in the Long-Term Plan), Paywave and Internet Transfers.

Which are all very well if one has an internet connection, and has (or wants) a Smarty-Pants Phone... lots of us don't, which will make life... interesting... in the onrushing Brave New World.

One can still have the Bank set up a phone banking payee, but without the ability to enter a specific invoice number; or have the bank make the transfer over the phone for one - at a charge, of course.

To be rather fair, I would have guessed that the same complaints probably were ventilated when we moved from payment in natura (no, not THAT natura!) to monetary systems..  ;)

Interesting, thanks.

Have you all noticed how when a utility or a bank or a government or a lottery have to give you a smallish sum of money (say under $100) they send you a cheque when they could easily put it into your bank account?
Know why this is?
It's because they know that a significant percentage of the cheques will never get paid in.  People can't be bothered, don't know how, or its too hard for that small an amount.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Haven't had one of those nice HMG Cheques for years. Everything, even my lottery is on-line.

Anyway I was talking about the quality of the 3D prints in the Special Hobby Fw 187 and here's a partial shot of the cockpit insert where I hope you can see what I meant about the rudder pedals and straps.

You might also be able to make out the full set of Italian "bondage belts"., which were 3D transfers. She will be an Italian AF single seater.

Now how would you know that's the kind of thing for that?

If you switch to Venmo be aware the transactions are visible to anyone. You can select to be private but you have to know to do that. Don't ask me how I know.

Yep, the 3D printing is impressive these days, with what they can do.
