Anyway, after what seems like an age since I last did any modelling I spent 90 mins-2 hours this morning having a little play with plastic.  Stepped back from the precipice of starting yet another build that'll inevitably take forever to finish and instead dug out the Hasegawa 'Kate' that'll be the first new build of the year (a real world build).  Also fitted undercarriage legs to a 'shelf queen' and fathomed out how to fabricate a windscreen for it.  well, OK I mean adapt a windscreen from the spares box!

However, what was particularly very theraputic was masking a canopy and then applying the interior framing colour on one part-build.  Oh, and making a couple of mass balances for it out of what looked like (after scraping paint off them) a couple of 1/72 Matchbox Lysander bombs.  Only built one Matchbox Lysander, that was in the mid-80s so how they've survived I don't know.  Bought a pre-loved Matchbox Lysander a couple of years ago and must dig it out sometime soon.

So there's three part-builds that won't take much of a push to get done.  Theses will be my modelling focus over the coming weeks and then it's on to the 'Kate' and a handful of bigger builds (all real world subjects with family associations) that I'd really like to get under way.  As for whiffing it'll be a case of geting some more part-builds finally finished.

Anyway, in between shifts at The Globe and what one of my grandsons calls ''Piratewatch' there's time for some modelling.  Have got into the habit of listening podcasts whilst modelling, recently caught up with The Fort.

Nice enough except... The Air Ministry and RAF would have vetoed the use of Mercury, as they were needed for Blenheims (see the Navy having to accept the Skua being re-engined with Perseus) so it's more likely that any radial Whirlwind would have received Bristol Taurus, as that was the alternate engine in all the other fighters designed to that spec.  There was a single engined one drawn up with a Hercules and guns in the nacelles in place of the engines.

Besides which, Mercury is a crap engine for fighters, as you can't throttle it up quickly enough without flooding the engine and stalling it.  Which is one reason why so many Blenheims were lost during training, also the crash that took out the only flightworthy one in the late 80s.
