Cracking fireworks show, Chris.  There must have been at least 10000 spectators - from the entrance to the pier to about a mile west of it, no idea how many to the east.  It's a bit of a local institution.

Over here, it seems most fireworks diplays are being replaced by drone swarms with lights. While environmentally infintely better (of course!) and impressive in its own right, I still miss the banging on my chest from the heavier charges going off as well as the oh so lovely smell of expended powder. I'm old and grumpy, of course..

Over here, it seems most fireworks diplays are being replaced by drone swarms with lights. While environmentally infintely better (of course!) and impressive in its own right, I still miss the banging on my chest from the heavier charges going off as well as the oh so lovely smell of expended powder. I'm old and grumpy, of course.. 

I get it, but as someone who spent time in the Sandbox and has a "Gonna hide under the bed" reaction to fireworks going off (not so much gunfire, go figure), I'd much rather have the drone swarms.

I get it, but as someone who spent time in the Sandbox and has a "Gonna hide under the bed" reaction to fireworks going off (not so much gunfire, go figure), I'd much rather have the drone swarms.

Those having spent time in the (literal) trenches in the Ukraine are likely to disagree... as a former NZ Army squaddie, now a drone operator over there said on the radio recently, "The sound of drone rotors has become nightmare fuel."

They're trying to ban private sales of fireworks over here, and just go with the public displays.
I can't say I disagree, as folk tend to hoard them for New Years and other occasions... 

Still, at least we don't have literal gunfire going off to celebrate occasions...

I can understand that, and luckily, I have no such experiences. In fact, the most warlike situation I've been in was working a week i Flint, Michigan thirty years ago, where the gangs were fighting it out every evening. A more strange than dangerous experience, to be honest.
That said, I still like my fireworks. As the grumpy old fart I appparently am.

I don't object to fireworks, nor do I actively seek them out.   The ones in the photos do look pretty!

 In England, the question should be asked...............are we celebrating the fact that our gracious king James I survived a dastardly assassination attempt   in 1605, or are we celebrating an attempt to get rid of the whole government that very nearly worked  ?.

But I agree that I'd rather have organised displays instead of all the constant bangs from idiot neighbours and having to pick up burnt rockets from the garden.

I've have spent the last week asking exactly the same question
