I just checked out how much it cost for one of the new Lightning kits direct from Airfix to downunder - 30 quid postage!  They must be joking!  I'll wait for a cheaper source.

That's off, I just posted a parcel for Greg on BTS that's about twice the size of a Lightning and it cost £10.40. The Lightning costs £14.99 so it should be around £25.00 or so to get one in Oz.

Can confirm Kit's remark. Postage to Aus for it (Air-Mail) is £10.40 at the most. Dependent on weight could be £7.50ish
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

My parcel for Greg weighed 460 grams I think, and the rate went up above 500.

Now I've calmed down a bit, I think Airfix is sending it registered post - thats the only explanation I can up with.

I know the rates to downunder for unregistered are quite reasonable (much better for some reason than from the US and a hell of a lot better than from Canada, if the postage on Evilbay is anything to go by), which is why I was so surprised.

Looks like a Tilly & a Bedford QLC refueller, but will the Bedford be scaled to 1/72nd rather than 1/76th or vice versa and both are in RAF Blue Grey so are these supposed to be WWII or possibly early cold war ?

Will pass on both. Yawn factor 10! Most uninspiring calendar this year. Any bets that the Halifax will not be a re tool but the same tired old 1961 original? Clearly they are keeping the best till last!! :-\
I'm sure the 1/72 VC-10 will be a winner! As will the Victor B1/B2, the brand new tool Vulcans B1 & B2, the brand new Hercules C1/C3/130J,the 1/48 Spey Phantom...........................!!!

Ok! Ok! I'll keep taking the medication......................! <_<

Wish they were doing the VC-10/Victor/Vulcan/Herc and Spey Phantom Al.

Today's pic is the Southwest Airlines 737-200, prob just a reissue, prize is the Landy with troops gift set.

Hasegawa do an excellent series of Spey Phantoms, by all accounts. Not really worth Airfix trying to compete with that. I'd rather see more of the slightly offbeat stuff tbh.

Fujimi did/do 1/72 Spey Phantomes - weren't the Hasegawa Spey Phantoms 1/48?

BTW I acquired a new 1/72 Lightning F.2A today and it is bl**dy marvellous!

Problem is, the Hasegawa kits are long out of production, difficult to get hold of and frequently demand silly prices!! I've seen one go for nearly £70 on fleabay!! If Hasegawa ever DID reissue these kits they would inevitably be at the usual eye watering Hasegawa prices. Airfix could probably sell one for about the same price as their excellent Sea Vixen & Javelin kits. I know which I'd buy. Of course, if Airfix DO produce a proper Phantom, we will probably see a corresponding drop in the second hand prices the Hasegawa  kits currently fetch!

It'd be difficult to improve on the Fujimi 1/72 scale Spey Phantoms, now well OOP, but they're going, or rather trying to be sold, at £25-30 on eBay just now.  :o

I'm sure Airfix could do an equal, or even better job now at a little over half that price.

A 'proper' Phantom? Ya mean one powered by the J-79?  ;D

Yes, Hasegawa Spey-ed Phantoms are 1/48; Fujimi 1/72.

HLJ shows the current Fujimi FG.1 boxing as 'backordered' which means available
but not in stock. Their price is ¥1760 ($17.85, €13.20, £10.47)

Looking at the release history, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a re-release in the next year
or two.

Interestingly the new Airfix Lightning has a list of ¥1400 (£8.33), quite a contrast to the
Japanese market Airfix prices of years past and far below Revell import prices, and lower
than UK list!!
Okay took a look at distributors, Hornsby have two in Japan; Beaver Corp and GSI-Creos,
formerly known as Gunze Sangyo, and the producers of the Mister branded hobby products.
So in country distributors who don't double the list on imports, what an odd concept.  :banghead:

Oh it could, the fujimi is a bit off in places, the fit is not quite as ideal as first impressions and with an FG1 it could do with a dropped flaps and slats along with a rotating tail to go with the extended nose leg. A new tool could also include the folding wing tips and possibly the folding radar.

You can get the Fujimi H-32 Silver Jubilee boxing from some sources in Japan for about £12.50 plus postage and duty, howver its the FG1 with the RWR so those wanting an earlier F-4K, F-4M and FGR-2 are snookered. The current kit also only has the original decals sheet rather than a new Cartograf one  and the after market decals for RN versions are long sold out.

So yeap there is ample room for Airfix to produce a better product with modern kit features and be readily available at an affordable price. It would also enhance their range

A LOT lower than the UK £14.99!  :banghead:

Is this an example of 'Reverse Rip-Off'?

So they can't cut the RWR off? Call themselves modellers?
