Quote from: PR19_Kit on April 16, 2026, 07:51:04 AMBritish N gauge cars and passengers would be close, that's 1/148 scale, just a hop and a skip from 1/144.

As I know from another project, cars are available a-plenty, but a good selection of motorbikes is hard to find.

Maybe something from here?

There are a lot out there - just search 3d printable motorcycle. HTH

Which would be great if I had a 3D printer...

the hovercraft itsself would look good in Soviet Navy colors with a few BTR80's and T-72 tanks inside
Interesting😃!
Just a thought though. That ramp doesn't look high enough or wide enough to accommodate an MBT. I wonder about headroom inside too? Like the idea though.

BHC had a project for an open decked SRN4, with the props re-positioned to the outer edges of the hull.

It would have looked a bit like a MONSTER LCAC, but as is often the case with such projects, it never got past the drawing board stage.

There was a plan for an SR.N4 minesweeper in the 1970s. There's a drawing in Rebuilding The Royal Navy by DK Brown & George Moore. A lot of testing was done, including exploding 1100lb charges near the old SR.N3, which it survived remarkably well. Ship Dept of the RCNC (Royal Corps of Naval Constructors) were enthusiastic, but the naval staff and sonar teams were opposed. The debate was long and bitter, but Ship Dept lost in the end.

Secret Projects has a thread about it: https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/srn4-hovercraft-concepts.10966/

I'm actually quite tempted by that. They used to have one parked outside Mitcham Road Barracks back in the 60's and we used to clamber all over it when they had open days. There was a Saladin parked on the other side of the gates. The Barracks by then was a home for a Para TA unit, but had been built for the East Surrey's back in the day. Long gone now.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Almost same here, but in Shepparton Australia, we had one in  park. the doors were welded open but the turret still rotated. Always had kits clambering in, on and around. Oh for those days of carefree youth.
Compare that with the recent post by Zenrat about the fully cage enclosed Centurion, which I have no doubt is to stop people "hurting" themselves.

But yes.. this is a high must have after a close encounter with almost buying a 3D render to get printed.

Ditto - I almost made that Tactical Error as well... Looking forward to getting my sticky mitts on mine...  ;)

Weaver - does your local Library have a MakerSpace? may well have 3D printers there... worth a look.

When I was in my early teens, and living at RAF Benson, there was a complete Harvard fuselage parked flat on the kid's playground there, along with the usual swings and roundabouts etc. They'd taken all the glazing out of the canopy and much of the instrumentation was missing too, but everything else was there, including the seat harnesses. I put up a few 'flying hours' aboard it I can tell you.  ;D

The Alvis Saracen saw use in a lot of movies over the years. Mainly as background 'large army truck'. Rambo 3, Wing Commander, Judge Dredd..

I thought I saw one painted in Post Office or Royal Mail colours in a film set possibly in Northern Ireland. But it was actually a Humber Pig.
Here it is, Divorcing Jack!

Gondor

I would like an earlier version than the Mk.5 as they were used by the army prior to the troubles starting as armored personnel carriers, which is what they were for. It's just that the armor was different when they made the Mk.5 and it would be almost a rebuild if making an earlier version.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

Here's an easy whiff: they mocked up Swingfire ATGW launchers on a Saracen: just put it in service.
These look fixed, but IIRC the idea was that in a productionized system, the launchers would lie flat on the mudguards and elevate for firing.

Harold, I've taken the liberty of placing that pic in the Salamander, Stalwart, Saracen and Saladin thread.

Well worth a look for anyone building the recent Stalwart and forthcoming Saracen kit.

I've also added this pic (and others) mounting a Canadian mortar tracking radar, a more involved conversion.

Big flip-out speakers and a light-show projector turret.
