I think with those measurements the decision was taken, even if unofficialy, to just let the old Imperial measurements die out. If so then it was one of the few sensible decisions the Civil Service ever made  ;)

Got to wonder if they just asked for an estimate of the cost of replacing all the road signs all at once, and then, when somebody had picked them up off the floor and given them a stiff drink, decided that miles weren't so bad after all...

Though, as Sir TP once pointed out, it does leave you with the strange situation where 0 degrees for freezing water and 100 degrees for boiling water makes sense, but then so does 70 degrees will always be a comfortable temperature for the room... (Celsius, Celsius and Fahrenheit for those wondering  )

I went on a Motorbike touring holiday in the Republic of Ireland in the early nineties.  They had fairly recently switched from miles to km but while they had changed all the speed signs the distances on direction signs were not being changed unless a new sign was needed.
Navigation was interesting (no GPS maps on a device back then) as you had to estimate the age of the sign to work out if you were still going the right way.
You might pass a sign saying Dublin 60, pass through a few villages, dodge a few jaywalking nuns, bounce across some bog roads, and then come upon a sign saying Dublin 75.  Now had you got turned around or was the first sign an old one and the second new?
Better stop for a pint and consult a local in this convenient pub.  "Hello there lads.  On your holidays are you? Can I be buying you a pint?"
It's rude not to buy one back.  Oh would you look at that we appear to be inebriated again.  Never mind, the local bobby is over there in the corner and drink driving is almost compulsory here.  Oops watch out father, nearly got you that time.  Do none of the clergy look before they step out into the road?

Oh yes, I was doing quite a bit of work in Ireland at that time too, and I had a rather 'warm' Zafira GSi to trundle around in. I was at a customer in Tullamore, just about in the centre of Ireland, and one of my other customers in Cork wanted me there in a hurry, so early the next morning I 'hurried' off down to the south.

Approaching one village a Guardee stepped out in the road with his had raised so I stopped of course. He came round and asked me if I knew how fast I was going, and I said yes I did, and it was pretty quick. He said 'Ah yes, Oi could see that sor, but how fast WAS it, because I have this new meter thing that only reads in kph and I only think in moils'.  ;D  ;D

So I admitted I was doing about 80 mph at the time as I needed to be Cork in a hurry, and he reckoned that wasn't too bad, and thanked me for 'calibrating' his meter!  ;D  ;D

Then he waved me off and vanished back behind his hedge.  ;)

If you do 1/48th WWII-ish fighters, this bundle looks to be a good deal. £240 worth of kits for £100! : https://uk.airfix.com/products/148-scale-fighter-bundle-bundlea41

As usual, some of the bundles are very good IF you want all or most of the things in them, or you don't mind selling on the ones you don't want:

Two things wrong with the free kit offer:1) it's 1/48.2)It's a Spitfire! Other than that, not bad!😂

Problem I have with these "bundles" is that there is rarely enough in them to(personally) make a purchase worthwhile.

I'd rather not go through the rigmarole again of having to dispose of unwanted kits. I got caught that way twice with so called "mystery" bundles with only two out of the total 10 kits being of interest.

I won't be buying another bundle, mystery or otherwise again. Still, good to know what items are likely to disappear from the range shortly 😉😂

I actually thought the 2026 range overall was a bit MEH!  There's little there that I want that I don't have already. I'll only be getting the Canberra and Skyvan so , not a complete loss😉😊

Yeah, I noticed that  ;D

I'm presuming it's a copy-and-paste oversight from a previous promotion.

I feel it wouldn't be that difficult for the mailing options on these sites to have scale tickboxes to help reduce the spam

Airfix for one are not going to do that. I've had the distinct feeling for the last few years that they're trying to push people towards 1/48th.

More a matter of the market pushing Airfix into expanding the 1/48th range.
