This is a great idea and I'm keen to challenge my painting skills. I've been hoping to see one or more of the birds issued as Vintage Classics so I wonder if the success, or otherwise, of this range will affect the chances of that happening. Regardless I think this is very cool! I expect the team had taken notice of how successful Lego's flower kits have been, as previously mentioned - they're a favourite of my girlfriend and decorate our house. I see one or more of these in my future. And as she said: "Not everyone that builds models likes planes."

It's certainly a choice to wait until after the big 2026 range launch and the catalogue's publication to announce it!

Part of my brain is saying "Airfix did flowers back in the day ?", but  then reading Zac's post re the birds I think it was just the base that they came on ?? Confused

Anyway, best of luck to them
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

If they include a fritillary in the range, good luck painting that! 😂

Quote from: Weaver on January 27, 2026, 01:52:14 AM...The question for us though, is how do you whiff a flower kit?

I've been scratchbuilding Mrs z Whiff flowers for Valentine's day for four or five years.  I use scraps of styrene from my "normal" modelling along with other bits and pieces that fit the build.
I'm working on this years one now.  I've been inspired by an orchid she's got in our guest bathroom.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Somewhat challenging. Definitely not impossible.

My daughter in law and grand daughters  already make Lego flowers. They are making very interested noises about the Airfix offering.........so that's new customers for the Hornby concern!

You could hit up the model railway world for bits to make a fantasy what-if. Start with the tulip, then give it windows and a door. It's amazing what figures you can get. Fairies? No problem.

Swell, flowers. What's next, insects?  :banghead:
I'll stick to REGULAR MODEL AIRCRAFT, ARMOR, SHIPS, etc., thank you very much.
Obviously, Airfix is trying to copy what LEGO did.
Just because LEGO had success with flowers and plant sets doesn't necessarily mean Airfix will have success.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

I hope they well from it .. opening new doors to new modellers and as Weaver said ,, new ideas to old modellers ,,as for this bloke ,,that's a no .. when it comes to plants i know less than Jack/S and that's fine ,, hell mum kicked me out of her garden once when i was mowing the lawns ,,here vege garden was lik the size of a tennis court ;D ..well mum had planted some rhubarb plants in a new patch and i mowed right over em ,,they looked like weeds to me which is a right PITA cause i do love some nice rhubarb i can tell ya

Will I buy flower kits? ... No, but I can see a market for them &, for a business, buyers = profit = success.  ;D

I have a number of dinosaur models & the idea of instect models interests me!

Not everyone is into planes, trains & automobiles (& ships), so I'd say it's a good business plan to try & diversify your client base. Good luck to Airfix, I say!

They've done that. Heller had several insect kits and Airfix marketed a boxed set, back when they had a close agreement.
