Quote from: scautomoton on January 14, 2026, 02:47:23 AMA good coat of decent primer to cover the metal and filler then went on. After that was sanded properly the paint would go on and the finish was perfect.

Indeed so, but metal isn't plastic and doesn't semi-dissolve like styrene does when covered with other chemicals.

I've had just the same effects as Fred had on his 4x4, but with an Italeri Ford Transit, also moulded in BRIGHT RED. :(
This is a good point actually. Any solvent based primer may compromise the styrene, and I hadn't thought of the chemical reactions that may be taking place. I would think that use of an acrylic-based primer *should* prevent this sort of blooming (since acrylic is quite benign).

Indeed the origional kit got very good reviews, but people wondered why that done a Mk II as it was only used by 2 Sqds, whereas the IIa was used by 10 or something ? I've only just read the SAM review of the origional kit (catching up on things) and the authour listed all the changes necessary for a IIa.

Ooh, new 1/72 Canberra B.2 and Ju52!

New 1/48 Phantom FG.1 and a Jag T.2/T.4.

SRN4 and Lunar Module repops.

Hmmm - Swedish Mustang ain't from 1938!!

The Typhoon Twinpacks look nice.  Not sure which Hurricane will feature - the old tin-wing Mk I I guess.  Hopefully the Typhoon will be the easy build version.

Some decent 1/72 and 1/48 aircraft repops.  The Dauntless is tempting for whiffery reasons.

I think they've done well.

Canberra B.2?  Nice, but I've enough Cranberries tucked away, I really don't need more.  And a modern Ju 52/3m would be very good - the Italeri and Heller ones are late 1970s and are still really nice kits (there's always been some controversy over which is the better kit, as both have errors but annoyingly, not that same thing.  IIRC the Heller one is marginally better, although Italeri did more variants).

Assuming they've LIDARed the one at Cosford, is it a genuine ex-Luftwaffe one or a post war French one?  There are some differences.

Aircraft-wise I think Airfix have done the business this year. There's also a massive load of their 1/600 floaty things being re-released, some interesting Armour, and a load of completely left-field Roman and Robin Hood figures!

I've got a couple of Canberra B.6s with Aeroclub correction sets but the new Airfix kits should be very nice.  Expect old Airfix Canberras to be offloaded cheaply!

The Ju52 is tempting - a captured version (decals are out there) or, if I can find info on them, an early post-WW2 Tante Ju as used by the RAF in Germany before they went to BEA.  Mind you, a BEA Ju52 would be different.

And for the tanky/target types, there's a Saracen and a new Stalwart Limber.

Gondor

I think they did well. The 1/48 F-4 and Lightning are also both new tools. More new tool aircraft in 1/48 than in 1/72, but on the whole, I am quite happy with what they are bringing out.

Didn't know Airfix had done a 1/76 Leopard I. Partners well with the Chieftain that hasn't been seen for a while.

Lightning is a re-box. A09178A is the code. Which means in a year or two the F1/F2 will probably be reboxed too.

How  long before Colin Freightdog has B6 and PR7 conversions out for the Canberra B2 then?  ;D

I'm surprised the SRN4 is priced as 'low' as it is, I was expecting £50 or more, so I may get one so I can do a proper Super IV (their official titles were Mk IIIs.....). You need three kits to do it properly, and that was going to be expensive when I'd have had to get an extra one off ebay.

While not a 1/48 modeller I can see the F-4K and the re-popped Lightning F6 selling well, just not to me.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The Canberra will definitely have my money, maybe the Apollo LEM, and the SR.N4, hard to pass it up at that price.
