Heading home from Gloucester this morning I spied a black shape with a BRIGHT flashing light heading toward me up the Severn. It turned out to be an FAA Wildcat, which rather begged the question of whether they were looking for enemy submarines THAT far upstream!  :o

It was very low too, right on the 250 ft limit I'd have said.

So that's what it was!!  We had a bright light attached to a Lynx-ish looking machine over us in the late morning, but the cloud was (and still is) so low  that I couldn't get a good ID on it.  I assume he was searching for submarines in the flooded fields around us................the water is almost deep enough in some of them.

It gets even more mysterious..............  :o

This afternoon, on the way back from shopping in Lydney, the town where I live, I heard that 'Whup-Whup-Whup' that's so redolent of a BERP rotor, and right above me was an FAA Wildcat! It was even lower this time as he was over land, and the town's maybe 75ft higher than the River, even at high tide.

There's something going on..................... :-\

Kit, just do not mention : Long wings, Meteor, PR19, or anything else like that. They are clearly looking for the source!

No, sort of bluey-grey, being Navy ones. The Army versions are green.

I was watching a USAF HC-130J Combat King heading right for me yesterday ( on the ADSB exchange ) of course it headed South at the last minute and was too far away for me to spy. ADSB is both wonderful and a curse lol.

Then you should be OK.

What is the "ADSB"?

ADSB

https://adsbexchange.com/

It's a global exchange where a/c are tracked. You have to click global radar view, then you have to go to the menu : filters: apply filters : highlight military, then go back to the maps.
